The world of Harry Potter is full of weird and wonderful spells, and light spells are one of the first we’re introduced to. There is so much. So, in this post, we will mention light spells, also known as Light-creation spells.
The most well-known light spell is Lumos. However, other versions exist, including Lumos Duo, Lumos Maxima and Lumos Solem.
How Are The Light Spells Different?
Given that the Lumos spell has different iterations, let’s review how different they are.
Lumos is standard for a light spell, as it helps a magical person see in the dark. Nox is the countercharm. It can also help reveal objects hidden in plain sight in a dark environment.
Lumos Duo does not appear in the books but is used in the Prisoner of Azkaban video game. It was used to repel Ghouls and to make Hinkypunks go solid. The spell can also be used as a defence and can attract Chizpurfles.
Like with Lumos Duo, Lumos Maxima was not in the books and was created for the movies. Newt Scamander, Harry Potter and Albus Dumbledore are notable users to have used the spell. A noteworthy time the spell was used was in the opening scene of Prisoner of Azkaban. It was also used in the cave when Harry and Dumbledore searched it for Slytherin’s locket.
Finally, we have Lumos Solem. Again, this spell was not in the books and is famously used by Hermione Granger to free Ron Weasley from the Devil’s Snare. In the book, she uses the Bluebell Flames spell.
