Once upon a time, Meghan Markle had a couple of handfuls of celebrity supporters. Now, they are few. Every time a negative story comes out in the press about her, no notable famous people come out to defend her. There is a reason for that, which her husband, Prince Harry, all but exposes in his book Spare.
Hollywood is a tiny place, regardless of what the media says. Many celebrities are very supportive of each other’s privacy. In Spare, Harry writes that he found magic mushroom chocolates in Courtney Cox’s fridge while he was chasing at her house. This invades her privacy and exposes her as an alleged drug user.
Before this, we have the Beyoncé name drop and text reading from Meghan during Harry & Meghan, the Netflix docuseries. It is well-known that Queen Bey is very private. She would not have enjoyed having a text read out for the public to hear. Also, Harry gives the fakest gasp, implying that the whole scene was faked to make it look like Beyoncé was their ally. Never once has she come out to back Markle.
The only celebrity supporters Meghan Markle seems to have are:
- Oprah Winfrey
- Gayle King
- Tyler Perry
- Patrick J. Adams
- Abigail Spencer
- Jameela Jamil
- Serena Williams
- Janina Gavinkar
How many of these names would the public recognise? Oprah and Serena are definite A-listers. Despite his billionaire status, Tyler Perry is either a border A-list or a top-billing B-list. Gayle is only famous because her best friend is Winfrey. However, few people know the names Patrick J. Adams, Abigail Spencer, Jameela Jamil, and Janina Gavinkar. Abigail is probably the most recognisable of all these people because she was a lead on Timeless. Janina, meanwhile, has a long association with Star Wars. She was in a video game and was the voice of Ahsoka Tano’s mother, Pav-ti Tano, in Tales of the Jedi.
Meanwhile, you have celebrities like Sharon and Kelly Osbourne, who people have tried to cancel because they don’t like Prince Harry or Meghan Markle whinging. Sharon was cut from her talk show position because she defended her friend, Piers Morgan when he came under attack for not believing what was said on Oprah.
There have also been blind items and rumours that Meghan keeps getting celebrity phone numbers and texting them, wanting to hang out with them. This would not be surprising. Then, you have people like:
- Kevin Costner
- Gwyneth Paltrow
- Cameron Diaz
- Benji Madden
- John Travolta
Those who have all had to come out in some way to shut down news articles from the Sussex PR machine saying Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are friends with them when they’re not.
Just because you have one conversation with someone or walk past them on the way into a restaurant doesn’t mean you’re automatically friends with them. For example, the sushi restaurant fiasco where the media was drooling and saying that the Sussexes were having dinner with Cameron Diaz, Benji Madden and Gwyneth Paltrow was false as the photos clearly show Cameron and Benji were not even talking to them as they passed.
Hollywood respects the privacy of their stars. Meghan and Harry do not respect the privacy rule of anyone, including their own families, but expect people to respect their privacy.
