Mohamed Al-Fayed took shots during the Operation Paget inquiry at the Spencer siblings and mother, claiming that one of Diana’s sisters and their mother, along with then-Prince Charles and Prince Philip, were involved in “getting rid” of the princess.
We’ve stated this before in earlier sections, but Mohamed was looking for someone to blame. He could not accept that his son died in something as simple as a car crash. He was known to embellish his life, and he did the same after Dodi’s death.
Let’s take a look at the allegations leveled at the Spencer siblings and other members of Diana’s family.
Prince Philip Wanted Diana Dead
There is a long-standing belief that Prince Philip wanted his former daughter-in-law dead. In a letter sent to the Minister for Justice, Scotland, Mohamed alleges that the Duke of Edinburgh had written a “vitriolic letter” to Diana. He did this to show the might of the monarchy. Moreover, implying he wanted her to fear for her life.
Al-Fayed alleges in an early 2005 interview that Diana allegedly told him that if something happened to her, to look at Prince Philip.
Mohamed gave another interview in early 2006. This time he was alleging that letters Diana had from Prince Philip threatening her were given as evidence over to Scotland Yard.
Robert Fellowes And Prince Philip
It is alleged that Diana told her longtime friend Roberto Devorik that she feared three people: Nicholas Soames [Member of Parliament], Robert Fellowes [her brother-in-law], and Prince Philip [her former father-in-law]. Devorik made the following statement using the princess’ words about Robert Fellowes while being interviewed by Operation Paget:
He hates me. He will do anything to get me out of the Royals. He cost me the friendship with my sister.
Roberto Devorik
He also mentioned that Diana said the following about Prince Philip:
Prince Philip wants to see me dead.
Roberto Devorik
Roberto mentions that he and Diana didn’t travel to Argentina together after the Bashir (Panorama) interview in November 1995. She feared for his safety. He also made another point: the Princess had visions/premonitions that she would be killed.
Prince Philip And The Security Services? Diana’s Paranoia?
After Diana spoke to Prince William, on the phone, she said to Roberto, “After this, they are going to kill me”. This was concerning the Panorama interview. Devorik asked her to elaborate further, questioning whether she meant her husband, and she allegedly responded, “No. I am sure Prince Philip is involved with the security services. After this, they are going to get rid of me.”
In August 1996, Diana lost her HRH prefix after the Waleses’ divorce had been finalised. As she was walking through Heathrow’s VIP lounge, Diana saw a photo of Prince Philip and said to Roberto, “He really hates me and would like to see me disappear.” She added, “He blames me for everything.”
Rome
During the flight, which was to Rome, Diana, again, turned to Roberto and said, “Well cross your fingers, any minute they will blow us up.”
Roberto allegedly turned to discourage her from saying such things. He decided to ask if she believed what she was saying and why. Her alleged response was, “Yes, in a helicopter, a car or something like this [meaning the small plane].” She added, “Roberto, you are so naïve. Don’t you see they took my HRH title and now they are slowly taking my kids? They are now letting me know when I can have the children.”
We’ll cover more on Diana’s comments in part six, which will cover Diana’s alleged paranoia. Also, the princess had no security while she was in Rome.
Diana’s friend and clairvoyant, Simone Simmons, claimed that Diana, according to a 2008 Time article, had shown her letters from Prince Philip where he called her “a harlot and a trollop.” However, he fired back and said he didn’t.
Mohamed also called Prince Philip a Nazi. He also called him a racist who should go back to Germany “where he belongs.”
Mohamed Accuses Lady Sarah And Frances Shand Kydd
During the Paris inquiry, Mohamed accused Frances of being a terrible mother to Diana, an outright snob and of acting like she was the Queen of Sheba. They promptly ignored each other after that.
He went further, according to a Guardian article dated in early 2008, where he accused a ton of people, including Frances and Sarah, of being involved in Diana and Dodi’s deaths.
Mohamed thought, being the powerful businessman he was at the time, he would scrap through without evidence, which sounds like a certain prince recently.
One thing that doesn’t add up, which we’ll cover more broadly in part five: what would Frances and Sarah have to gain from Diana and Dodi’s deaths?
Did Diana Fear Charles Wanted Her Dead?
There have been conflicting reports that Prince Charles (now The King) wanted Diana dead. Allegedly, Diana had written to several people saying she feared that Charles was having someone do something to her car.
She also believed that Charles wanted to get rid of her and his mistress Camilla so he could marry Tiggy Legge-Bourke, William and Harry’s nanny.
Diana believed that her car brakes had been tampered with, which is what she told Simone Simmons and Hasnat Khan. She supposedly wrote a letter to her butler, Paul Burrell (which we’ll cover in part seven), mentioning that Charles wanted her and Camilla gone. It was her belief that he wanted them dead so he could be with Tiggy.
The Death Of A Bodyguard
We all know about Diana and Charles’ affairs behind each other’s backs. Charles with Camilla (now his wife) and Diana with several other men, including Barry Mannakee. He was a royal protection officer who, like Diana, was married with children at the time their alleged affair happened. He was killed in an accident involving the motorbike he was a passenger riding on with a colleague and a car in 1987.
The driver of the bike survived but Barry died at the scene. He had resigned his commission as her bodyguard before this. Diana was devastated by his death. She was recorded in a conversation talking about him. Though she never mentioned Barry by name.
Allegedly, Diana believed that Barry’s death was deliberate. So did some of his family, who held the belief that the security forces were behind his death. Mannakee’s death was ruled an accident and was reinvestigated as part of Operation Paget.
Several people, including Paul Burrell, former Protection Officer Ken Wharfe and Hasnat Khan, said Diana had shared her belief with them.
