Who Played Aquaman’s Mother?

Atlanna, Aquaman

Nicole Kidman is one of the most iconic actresses alive today. In the Aquaman movies, she plays the former Queen of Atlantis, Atlanna, the mother of Arthur Curry and Orm Marius. The character has a fascinating backstory, which we discuss in this article.

Atlanna was the Queen of Atlantis who was betrothed to Orvax. She didn’t love the man and did everything in her power to avoid having to marry him. Moreover, she escaped to the surface and met fisherman Thomas “Tom” Curry. They later married and welcomed a son, Arthur.

However, Orvax sent guards after her, and despite trying to fight them off, Atlanna realised she had to return to Atlantis to keep her husband and son safe. Hesitantly, she leaves Arthur to be raised by Tom, which leaves her son bitter.

Atlanna The Queen And Marries Orvax And Has Orm

Upon her return, Atlanna married Orvax and had a son with him, Orm, Arthur’s younger half-brother. She lived in exile for years and took on Mera, a Princess of Xebel, as a student. She also later sends Mera to find Arthur, who voices his contempt for his mother leaving him.

Furthermore, Mera tells him that his mother had no choice in the matter and that Atlanna did what she did to protect him and his father.

Upon her reunion with the former Queen, Mera expresses her surprise that she’s alive, knowing she was exiled. Later, Atlanna also reunites with Tom. After Arthur defeats his brother in combat, Orm demands his big brother kill him. Luckily, their mother intervenes and stops it. Finally, she kisses her youngest son before allowing him to be taken by the guards.

A few years later, Atlanna would become a grandmother when Arthur and Mera welcomed their son, Arthur Jr.
