There are so many future Queens in Europe, so we wanted to introduce the Project Fangirl audience to Princess Ingrid Alexandra, the future Queen of Norway. We’ve already spoken about her in our post on future European Queens, but we wanted to discuss Ingrid Alexandra in more detail.
The Scandinavian royal families are incredibly close, as Norway, Denmark, and Sweden are all within close proximity to each other. With the recent ascension of King Frederik X and Queen Mary, their son, Crown Prince Christian, will likely be reigning at the same time as Ingrid Alexandra, who is a year older than him.
Meet Princess Ingrid Alexandra Of Norway
The eldest child of Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway, Ingrid Alexandra was always destined to be Queen. She has an older maternal half-brother Marius, who was born to their mother before she met Haakon.
Marius is not Haakon’s son, so he is not in the line of succession. However, Ingrid Alexandra’s younger brother, Sverre Magnus, is in the line of succession and he does not displace her.
The reason why Ingrid Alexandra will be monarch over Sverre is because in 1990, Norway changed its succession laws so any child born into the royal family after 1990 will have equal right to the throne, especially if they’re born to the Crown Prince.
Even though Ingrid Alexandra’s aunt, Princess Märtha Louise, is older than Haakon, she will not be Queen as she was born well before 1990. She had three daughters with her late ex-husband, Ari Behn. Her eldest daughter Maud is actually older than Princess Ingrid Alexandra and is untitled.
As the future Queen of Norway, Princess Ingrid Alexandra has the “Her Royal Highness” prefix or HRH. Her younger brother is styled as “His Highness” or HH.
Like many members of her family the Princess enjoys water sports.
