What Role Does Persphone Play In The Percy Jackson Books?

Persephone Percy Jackson

Persephone, the daughter of Demeter and Zeus, doesn’t have that much of a role in the Percy Jackson book series. She only appears in The Last Olympian, where she spends most of the time arguing with her mother, Demeter. The Queen of the Underworld is also the stepmother of Nico Di Angelo, with whom she starts out not having a good relationship. He was the product of an affair Hades had had with a mortal woman, Maria Di Angelo with whom he also had a daughter, Bianca.

Despite not having a bigger role in the Percy Jackson books, Persephone appears in other Camp Half-Blood books. She appears in:

  • Percy Jackson’s Greek Heroes
  • The Demigod Files
  • Percy Jackson’s Greek Gods
  • The Sun and the Star: A Nico Di Angelo Adventure

Meanwhile, Persephone has been mentioned in:

  • Lightning Thief
  • The Titan’s Curse
  • Mark of Athena
  • House of Hades
  • The Hidden Oracle
  • The Dark Prophecy
  • Burning Maze

Persephone shows up with Demeter when Hades tries to decide what to do with Percy after Nico tricks him. Hades is begged by his wife not to kill the young son of Poseidon. Persephone looks about ready to protest but decides against it. She and her mother resume their argument.

Finally, the Queen of the Underworld has a small role in the Sun and the Star, an adventure starring Nico and his boyfriend, Will Solace, a son of Apollo. By the time this story comes around, Persephone and her stepson have a much better relationship. She even gives Will advice on dating someone from the Underworld.

Moreover, Persephone appears to approve of Nico and Will’s relationship.
