Justice League: Doom was adapted from the 2000 JLA comic story, Tower of Babel, released in 2012 as an animated film. It is also a standalone sequel to Crisis on Two Earths and is part of the DC Animated Universe of films as the 13th entry. Another entry in the series is Flashpoint Paradox.
When Vandal Savage, a longtime enemy of the Justice League, starts putting into motion a plan to destroy civilisation and begin anew, he recruits other villains to help him. He gets Mirror Master to infiltrate the Batcomputer, so he knows what Batman plans to do in case his Justice League friends go rogue.
Cue Justice League: Doom. Savage then creates the Legion of Doom, which consists of Star Sapphire, Cheetah, Metallo, Ma’afela’ak, Bane and Mirror Master, offering them money to do his bidding. Of course, because he is super rich due to existing forever.
The Missing Bodies And Kidnapping The Justice League
Elsewhere, Alfred tells Bruce Wayne that the bodies of his parents, Thomas and Martha, are missing. When Wayne goes to investigate, Bane ambushes him. Martian Manhunter is also captured when he ingests poison given to him by Ma’afela’ak. Cheetah kidnaps Wonder Woman while Star Sapphire does the same to Hal Jordan using Scarecrow’s fear gas. Metallo brings Superman down with a Kryptonite bullet.
Batman almost accepts his fate when he finds a tape recorder that has a message on it by Bane, mocking him, and it inspires him to break out of his situation. Meanwhile, Cyborg hears Wonder Woman in trouble and goes to help but finds she has gone on a rampage.
Savage tells the Legion of Doom the plan is to shoot a rocket into the sun, setting off a solar flare. Furthermore, it will kill half of Earth’s population and disable all modern technology.
Saving The League And Stopping The Legion Of Doom
After saving Wonder Woman, Cyborg rejoins Batman to save Martian Manhunter while the Flash is told to vibrate and run through an iceberg to get out. Bruce arrives at the cave where Hal is trapped and tells him the hostages he thought he was saving were robots. At first, Jordan is wary but comes to his senses.
The League assembles in Metropolis, where the health of Superman is declining due to the Kryptonite poisoning. They get the bullet out and retreat to the Watchtower. It’s here that Bruce reveals he always had a plan in place the Batcomputer was hacked in any way. They trace the rocket Savage as aimed at the sun but cannot stop it from launching. However, they can get the rocket to phase through the sun, saving Earth.
Savage is arrested and imprisoned for crimes against humanity, while Cyborg is added to the Justice League roster.
