For new Percy Jackson fans, you might wonder why Walker Scobel [The Disney+ series’ Percy Jackson] was seen wearing a second necklace in a recent promo image. Well, that’s what we’re going to be talking about. Now, for those who don’t know what we’re talking about, it’s the featured image on this post.
In the image, we have Walker, who is front and centre, with the two older actors being Lance Riddick on the left [Zeus] and Toby Stephens [Poseidon] on the right. If you look at Walker, he is seen with a string necklace with nothing on it. That necklace is Percy’s camp necklace without the first bead on it.
What Is The Second Necklace?
What’s more, the second necklace with the five beads and the ring is the one that will be worn by Leah Jeffries, who plays Annabeth. Walker is wearing it in the photo because, during The Lightning Thief book, Annabeth gives Percy her necklace for luck, but he later returns it. Moreover, the picture would have been taken when the scenes with Percy wearing the necklace were shot.
Percy gets his first bead at the end of The Lighting Thief, as it is the end of Summer when beads are traditionally given out. Annabeth has more beads than any other demigod at camp because she has been at camp for a long time. Whether this will be the narrative in the show is yet to be seen. However, it might be, as Rick Riordan is involved with the series.
Also, Annabeth tells Percy in The Lightning Thief what three of the beads are, but he interrupts her, so we don’t know what the others are.
The known beads on Annabeth’s necklace at the beginning of The Lightning Thief include:
- Thalia’s Pine Tree – Annabeth’s first year.
- Centaur In A prom Dress – Annabeth’s second year.
- Greek trireme on fire – Annabeth’s third year.
Furthermore, when Percy and Annabeth start dating, he gives her a red coral pendant from his dad’s palace under the sea.
Other Necklace Beads
By the end of The Last Olympian (book five of the PJO series), the other beads include:
- A black bead with a turquoise trident – symbolising Percy’s arrival at camp.
- The Golden Fleece – symbolising the rescue of the Golden Fleece.
- Daedalus’s maze.
- The Empire State Building with the names of the fallen written in tiny greek text.
In conclusion, the only book that didn’t get a bead is The Titan’s Curse; it happened in the same year as The Sea of Monsters.
