Our new favourite Avenger is returning sooner than we thought – Shang-Chi has captured so many people’s hearts as the first Asian superhero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Simu Liu is incredible in the role and we cannot wait to see where the character and his companions go next. Gizmodo Australia’s Germain Lussier is reporting that Destin Daniel Cretton, who directed the first film is returning for a second movie and is also developing a Disney+ series.
While we’re so excited about this, there is so much they could touch on. Depending on where Cretton takes the narrative, we’d love to see Shang-Chi and Katy’s adventures after their run-in with the Mandarin. Sure, Wenwu wasn’t an evil guy. He is misguided in thinking his dead wife was out there and wanted him to rescue her.
The post-credit scene with Xialing, the sister of Shang-Chi might’ve provided a clue as to where the story is going. If we had to guess, the Xialing and the Ten Rings plot could be the Disney+ series as there is so much that it could cover. It would be too much for a film to cover in a 120-minute runtime. Also, Destin will be the writer of the sequel and the television series, according to Full Circle Cinema’s Christian Hubbard.
Where The Shang-Chi Sequel Could Take Us
The Shang-Chi sequel could take us anywhere it wanted, though it might explore more about the ten rings themselves. Shang-Chi and Katy could go on a journey with Wong and learn about the origins of the weapons.
Moreover, the story could take us back to Ta Lo, the home of Shang-Chi and Xialing’s mother, where we could learn about her life. We’d love to see Michelle Yeoh again as Ying Nan, Shang-Chi and Xialing’s aunt. We loved her in the first film as she provided a peaceful presence that countered Wenwu’s more violent outlook.
