A Shield… Again
Scott Morrison needs to get off his high horse. His constant need to use his family as a shield is becoming a pattern. Remember back in 2019-2020 when he took his daughters to Hawaii while Australia was burning during one of the worst bushfire emergencies in the country’s present history? Then, there was the comment he made when rape survivor Brittany Higgins came out with her story, and he used his daughters (again) to say how appalled he was that something so vile had occurred.
You don’t need to be a parent to display sympathy. Then came the recent 60 Minutes interview with the Morrison couple. Jenny, ScoMo’s wife, took the blame for the holiday fiasco. What’s more, the PM’s spouse has coped criticism from the public, according to Matt Young of news.com.au.
Scott Morrison Is A Disgrace
While her comments were aimed at former Australian of the Year, Grace Tame, it doesn’t make it any better. Any questions about Higgins or Tame, Scott deflected onto his wife. Why? She’s not the Prime Minister. She didn’t feign innocence of not knowing about Brittany’s rape for a year.
Julian Rizzo-Smith of Pedestrian labelled the interview as “tactless.” Any difficult question about the matter at hand was pushed to Jenny. A man with respect would answer what was asked of him, not deflect.
For Morrison, these constant slip-ups keep going on, and it needs to stop. Yes, his daughters need role models, and Grace and Brittany can be that. However, his attitude towards their situation is coming off as ignorance. This is no different from how Kevin Rudd is the only PM to apologise to the Stolen Generation.
Morrison doesn’t give a damn about anything but his reputation. Feigning innocence that he didn’t know when his staff was aware of what occurred is bizarre.
