Mr and Mrs Sussex need to stop seeing themselves as superstars – I’m an Australian. We are part of the Commonwealth that the Queen presides over. I’ve spoken about this a few times, especially in Chronicles of Harkle posts. However, I wanted to cover how offended I am regarding Meghan’s disregard for the people lining the streets to see her and Harry when they were in Australia in 2018.
I’m writing this because I read an interesting piece by Clare Stephens, the executive editor of Mamamia, this morning. She wrote about how in 2018, when the Sussexes were in Australia for their tour, she spent six hours waiting to meet Meghan. Now that the reports are coming out about how the Duchess of Sussex saw the tour as pointless, she [Clare] feels hurt as Markle hates our country. Though, it wasn’t all bad. She points out that perhaps Meghan was confused by the pomp and pageantry, and Clare clarifies this in her piece. After all, Markle had been a royal for a few months when the tour happened.
However, if Tina Brown is believed, Meghan couldn’t wrap her head around the royal rules. Okay, I get it. She’s an American who doesn’t follow too many traditions. Fine. Whatever. However, why did she act like she was excited about Australia when she didn’t care? Least of all, what did she even agree to attend? If I were here, I would hold a country close to my heart if it were my pregnancy that was announced there.
This is what stings the most. She sees the Australian public as silly for showing up to see her. Odd. You would think that a narcissist such as Meghan would’ve enjoyed the attention she was getting. Hmm. Perhaps she did love the attention but didn’t like that she couldn’t parade around and have people waiting on her hand and foot.
Offended There Was No Gratefulness
Meghan is not grateful, and that is why people are offended. I’m not saying everyone is, as some don’t give a damn. However, let’s not forget that this is the same tour where she and Harry claimed to Oprah Winfrey that Meghan’s performance was so well received that the other royals were green with envy.
I don’t quite remember if there were messages from the Sussexes or instead of their office about the reception they got while in Australia. In all honesty, I don’t care anymore. The lack of gratitude towards the people who waited for hours to see her speaks volumes. People took days off work and school to see them. Imagine how silly those people feel now, having gone out of their way to be there.
I give her a wide berth after hearing that utter insult if I were these people.
