Hawkeye is finally here, and it’s awesome! However, Kate and Clint have bigger problems to contend with than Barton’s enemies from his days as Ronin. They’ll have an assassin on their hands in the form of Yelena Belova, Natasha Romanoff’s adoptive sister.
In the post-credit scene for Black Widow, we see Yelena and her dog Fanny visit Natasha’s grave. It’s here that Belova’s employee, Contessa Valentina Allegra De Fontaine gives her a new assignment; to hunt down the man who killed her sister. However, what Val didn’t tell her was the full story.
How the Contessa found out Natasha had died in another story. Anyway, Yelena is going to be on the warpath. Not to mention, she doesn’t know the full narrative of her sister’s death. That begs the question of whether she will listen to reason once she does find Clint. The only information she has on Barton is what Nat told her about their mission to kill Dreykov. Though, what did Val tell her after she gave her the mission to kill him?
Is Yelena Responsible For The Tracksuit Mafia Showing Up?
There is speculation that Yelena is responsible for the Tracksuit Mafia going after Kate and Clint. While there’s no evidence, it’s not out of the question. However, Clint created powerful enemies when he was Ronin. The episodes show flashbacks from Avengers: Endgame when he was killing Japanese mobsters.
Yelena will have a ton of connections given her time in the Black Widow program and working with Val. So, that begs whether the Tracksuit Mafia is simply a diversion from the true threat. Also, could she have a connection to Eleanor and/or Jack, the mother and stepfather of Kate?
Could Yelena Have A Connection To Eleanor Or Maya Lopez?
Eleanor has been acting oddly since the prologue of the series where Kate was a child and her husband, Derek was seemingly killed during the Battle of New York in 2012. She has also been strange since Kate returned to New York after destroying the Stane belltower.
Is there more to Eleanor than meets the eye, and does it have something to do with Yelena? It doesn’t seem like it, but it might have something to do with Maya Lopez, aka Echo.
The Tracksuit Mafia is currently run by Maya, who is deaf. She also has similar abilities to Taskmaster where she can mimic the movements of other people. During a recent episode of New Rockstars, MT and Erik Voss bought up how Echo was bathed in red light when she appeared at the end of the second episode.
They theorised that the red light could be a reference to the Red Room and that Maya could’ve been a Black Widow or one of the girls Dreykov reprogrammed or trained to be like his daughter, Antonia.
While it’s a good theory, it doesn’t explain whether Yelena would know her or the connection she has to the Tracksuit Mafia. What’s more, is that she could be a solo operator, given that her so-called beef with Clint is personal.
