Goddess Girls SERIES REVIEW: Fun Way To Get Into Greek Mythology  – Brief For Books 1-6

Goddess Girls

There’s a time in every reader’s life when they have to start somewhere regarding their favourite topics. That’s what we will explore in this first Book Haven review. Since the Goddess Girls are short, this first discussion will be on the ones that have been read so far.

Currently, there are 28 books, with a 29th forthcoming. Since 2018, the books have been released annually instead of multiple times yearly, as they were initially when the series started in 2010.

The Goddess Girls books focus on a different female Greek heroine, either immortal or mortal, and partake life lessons that help young readers understand their lives. From dysfunctional family dynamics like Athena’s to dealing with first crushes and parents who remarry, these books have everything you could want for child readers.

What makes these books fun is their focus on one or two mythological stories. While not consistently accurate to avoid confusion, the books always stick to a simple tale, as many myths are told differently, depending on your version.

Goddess Girls Books Are Meant To Be Rated G

Sure, a few things are off, like most gods not being mentioned as Zeus’ siblings, lovers, children, etc., which makes it confusing for many people. Many of the lessons the characters learn throughout are accurate to their mythological counterpart.

For example, in book 5, Athena the Wise, Heracles (the Greek name for Hercules) does twelve labours. However, it’s done in a rated G way because the original story and reason behind the tasks are tragic and brutal. However, it’s mostly in line with the story without sadness.

We’ve only read the first 6 books, as they’re short enough to get through in a day. We’ve also been reading the Kobo ebook editions, and the font in the later books is big so that you can finish one book in a few hours. Once we’ve read more, we’ll do another review.

For the first six Goddess Girl books, we give them an average of 3 ½ stars.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

The first six Goddess Girls books are:

  • Athena the Brain
  • Persephone the Phony
  • Aphrodite the Beauty
  • Artemis the Brave
  • Athena the Wise
  • Aphrodite the Diva
