Sabine Wren’s quest in Ahsoka will be to find her missing friend, Ezra Bridger, who has been lost for about a decade. There has been two Ezra actors The character made his onscreen debut in the series premiere of Star Wars Rebels in 2014 and was voiced by Taylor Gray. Through the Star Wars animated show, Ezra became the Padawan of Kanan Jarrus, a former Jedi Padawan whose training ended upon the activation of Order 66. In Ahsoka, Ezra will make his live-action debut played by actor Eman Esfandi.
There was a rumour before Eman was cast that Mena Massoud had been given the role of Ezra. However, this ended up being false as Eman’s casting had been rumoured but not confirmed until the first trailer of Ahsoka dropped at Star Wars Celebration Europe 2023. There have been plenty of fan art of Mena as Ezra based on promo material used for 2019’s Aladdin.
In 2014 before the release of Rebels, Taylor’s casting in the show was announced via a preview of the series.
Ezra is seen as a street rat who lives on Lothal and has to steal from his neighbours to survive. By the time Rebels begins, his parents, Ephriam and Mira, have been missing 7 years after Imperials took them away. The episode, ‘Empire Day,’ reveals they were taken on Ezra’s 7th birthday 8 years earlier.
Moreover, Sabine pieces together why Empire Day is such a sore spot for Ezra. This was based on his comments and what Tseebo mentions.
How Much Of A Role Will Eman Play In Ahsoka As Ezra?
Given how long he’s been missing, it is unknown how much of a role Eman as Ezra will have in Ahsoka. He may spend more time as a hologram guiding Sabine. After all, it was implied in the Rebels that she is the only one capable of finding him.
We could get a live-action version of Bridger’s last appearance in Rebels, where Purgill take him with Grand Admiral Thrawn into the Unknown Regions. Anything could happen since we’re under a week away from Ahsoka‘s two-episode premiere.
There may even be references to previous events that happened during Rebels. It makes sense given that Dave Filoni is behind both shows.
