Elon Musk has bought Twitter, and it’s not going the way anyone envisioned. Who would’ve thought buying a massive social media company would cause many issues? Elon Musk, a multibillionaire, has only been in power for a week, and people are already leaving the platform. Oh, and he better not cross James Gunn who listens to the DC fans, but that’s for another post.
While we applaud Elon for wanting users to practice free speech, where does that put Twitter users who cause problems and spread misinformation? There has been speculation that former United States president Donald Trump could end up back on the platform after he was kicked off most social media platforms due to misinformation.
What’s more, is that a ton of celebrities have quit Twitter or have threatened to do so. Washington Post did a whole article on it. Not to mention, horror writer Stephen King said he would stay around but would pull the pin on his time on the platform if Elon starts charging $20 per month to those who have verified accounts. Maybe people like Murky Meg will be allowed back on the platform. Not to mention, the blue tick can be very powerful.
Elon Wants People To Pay For The Blue Tick
So, one of the things that Elon could change with Twitter is how verification may end up working. Those who already have the blue tick may have to pay $20 a month to keep it. Then, there’s another stinger. It will be much easier to get verified. Anyone can do it if they sign up for Twitter Blue, which is less than $10 monthly.
Anyone will be able to sign up and go through the verification process including those who have no business doing so, such as trolls. However, from what we have heard, verifications will have to be checked before an account is given the blue check mark.
Whether people like Trump will return to the platform is another story. The former president of the United States once said that he wouldn’t. He has set up his own platform.
Elon Boots Thousands Of People Out Of Twitter HQ
To make the situation with Elon and Twitter even worse, he has cut down on people who work for the company. The New York Times reports that staff have been preparing themselves since the sale went through a week ago. Some have even lodged lawsuits against the company. Furthermore, stories have started to come from axed employees having their work computers remotely erased.
The layoffs haven’t just occurred in the US, but all over the world. According to CNN, employees started to notice changes when they started to be removed from the company’s Slack channels and lost control over the computer systems. There were even some that were locked out of offices. The lower downs o the company weren’t the only ones affected. Major executives were also fired, including Parag Agrawal, the most recent CEO, and the entire board of directors was also let go in the shakeup.
