The Hypocrisy Of Twitter

Twitter

It’s a topic we wish we didn’t need to address so often, but here we are. So, Twitter has a habit, as many of you know, of suspending accounts simply because of the user’s opinions. We have spoken about this a million times before, and we’re exhausted, but it needs discussing. So, anyway, the reason this has come up is due to a tweet we found whilst we were checking our Twitter stats the other night and it left us a bit rattled. it was from one of Harry and Meghan Markle’s rabid supporters who then seems to report us to bot man (who we won’t name).

We had to cut the person’s handle out as we don’t want our followers going after this person. Anyway, this is what we found, and it left us rattled, especially since he who shouldn’t be named is tagged in the tweet. We also checked the account before we blocked the sugar, and several tweets mentioned us. Furthermore, we blurred his handle out in case the sugars come after us.

We reported the tweets and was told by Twitter the next day that they hadn’t done anything wrong. OF COURSE, they’d say that because they’re okay with targeted harassment. This doesn’t just apply to the Sugars anymore. It applies to everyone who ever dared to question anything. So, if we were to say something about a person we didn’t like, the woke crowd would pick up on it and we’d get shut down. However, if someone with a blue certification mark did the same thing, they wouldn’t be shut down.

Targeted Harassment Should Be Considered An Instant Suspension

There is a difference between opinion and targeted harassment.

Targeted harassment is when a person goes after another and threatens and belittles them. Moreover, an opinion is when someone says something in a non-discriminatory way.

So, if an unverified someone were to say something along the line of “I don’t like Meghan Markle due to her constant need to lie” this would be seen by Twitter as targeted harassment. However, if the same thing said was said by someone with a verification badge, they would get told off, or nothing would be done unless it was a repeat offence and was bad.

In our eyes, if someone is targeting someone else in a hateful way, the account should temporarily be suspended. If the user reoffends twice more, it should result in the suspension being permanent. Sorry, that sounds harsh. But people need to be taught a lesson, regardless of if they have the blue tick or not.

Twitter Blue Tick Means Power

We’ll cover this in a more in-depth post at a later date, but many people who end up with the blue tick on their social media accounts, allow the power to go their heads. It appears this has happened to our bot friend. As Spider-Man’s Uncle Ben would say, “With great power, comes great responsibility.”

What’s more, is we know people personally who have the blue tick on Twitter and they don’t abuse the power they’ve been given. They get on with their jobs and don’t allow their statuses to inflate their egos.

Just because you have the blue tick, doesn’t mean you’re safe from suspicion. Murky Meg’s account was shut down a week or two after she was verified. She never abused that power in the short time she had it.
