Apparently, A Fashion Designer Claimed That Catherine’s Wedding Dress Design Was Stolen… Some Five Years After The 2011 Royal Wedding

A story has resurfaced from a few years ago concerning Catherine, the Princess of Wales’s wedding dress. The famous gown design, which goes down in British royal nuptial history as one of the most iconic, was allegedly stolen from another designer. In 2016, it was reported by Elle Magazine Australia that fashion designer Christine Kendall had filed a copyright lawsuit against Alexander McQueen, the fashion house that created the gown.

Allegedly, Ms Kendall had sent designs to the fashion label before the 2011 wedding, according to WWD, and then claimed almost five years later that the Alexander McQueen fashion house had stolen her design. But, according to the now-defunct publication, Racked, the label was “left baffled” by the lawsuit. Not to mention, Sarah Burton, said to have designed the dress, did not see Kendall’s designs.

Why Five Years Later?

If the Racked article is correct, Kendall had been on the wedding dress drama long before the story went public. Also, the fashion designer filed a copyright claim five years after the wedding dress had made its public debut.

The video, linked in the Racked article, was uploaded in 2013 and is now unavailable. In addition, Vogue Australia reported in 2016 that Kendall was allegedly sent a card of thanks. But, allegedly, the then-Duchess of Cambridge (now the Princess of Wales) never saw the designs by Kendall.

Finally, the outlet also reported that Sarah Burton had never even heard of Kendall until 13 months after the wedding had happened when she got in touch with the label.

Whatever the case, we’d never heard this story until a couple of nights ago. So we’ll likely never know what happened.
