Alicent Only Now Realises That The Green Council Was Never Going Agree To Her Being Aegon’s Regent – What An Idiot!

Dowager Queen Alicent has been through a lot it seems to get her son Aegon on the Iron Throne. She realises now that the Green Council won’t accept a woman sitting as regent.

While she has no claim to the Iron Throne herself, Alicent did sit as regent as her husband, Viserys, was getting sicker. Upon their marriage, this prompted her father, Otto Hightower, to start planning for his future grandson to usurp the rightful heir, Rhaenyra’s place on the throne.

Alicent, like Aegon, was always a pawn. Otto saw a chance to get his blood on the Iron Throne and took it. He also took a small thing, like Rhaenyra’s sex and used it against her. The council that Aegon now precedes over is sexist and is using this same tactic against the Dowager Queen who raised some valid points about Aemond.

Aemond does not have much experience as a governing body. Alicent does. During more peaceful times when Viserys was King, she was able to act as regent because there was no war to speak of. The only reason why there is now is because the Green faction used Rhaenyra’s absence from court to drop Aegon on a throne he had no business to be on.

Also, they used what Alicent thought she used from Viserys on his deathbed when he mentioned ‘Aegon’ when he was talking about the Conqueror and not their son as a sign that he had changed his mind.

Viserys on his deathbed was delusional. He mistook Alicent for Rhaenyra. Also, Alicent recently learned from her former best friend/stepdaughter, that the King had been talking about the Song of Ice and Fire, that had existed since King Aegon I.

Moreover, Alicent was fuming as the Green Council ignored her plea to allow her to be regent over Aemond. Even her lover, Criston Cole and Lord Larys Strong went against her. Not to mention, they all know that he has become the devil.

Criston witnessed first-hand Aemond’s attempt to murder his brother while he was down for the count. He knew Prince Regent commanded Vhagar to fire upon Aegon and Sunfyre. He’s not an idiot, yet he chooses to accept the middle son of Alicent and Viserys to take control when he was warned there is no hope in taming the metaphorical beast.

Aemond has always craved power and taking out Aegon was his key to the throne. However, the only obstacle would have been Prince Jaehaerys, had he lived. Since the boy was too young to be his father’s regent, that role would have fallen to his uncle.

Though, knowing Aemond, he would’ve done anything to get to the throne. Even in the source material, he’s power-hungry, though he doesn’t go as far as trying to kill his brother.

Alicent, knowing her sons too well, realises that Aegon and Aemond are monsters in their own right.

Aegon has an unstable temper and Aemond is impulsive and has already killed two family members. Our thought is that he feels some remorse for Lucerys’ death. However, he would never allow anyone close to him to see this. In his view, he would be seen as weak.

Then there’s the case of Aemond’s relationship with his mother. We know Alicent sees straight through him. She knows how dangerous he is, especially after his fight with Luke, Jace, Baela and Rhaena over taking Vhagar, where he lost his eye.

This was the same conflict where the Queen wanted to take Luke’s eye in retribution for the loss of Aemond’s. It’s an eye for an eye type of thing.

Returning to Alicent, she’s an idiot for thinking that the lords would allow her to be regent in Aegon’s stead. In a modern everyday situation, a high-ranking woman can be second-in-command to a man and vice-versa.

One example is Queen Margrethe of Denmark. When she was out of the country, her son the then-Crown Prince Frederik was regent. Now that he is king, his wife, Queen Mary, can act as regent if he and their son, Crown Prince Christian are out of the country.

Alicent now understands how Rhaenyra felt when her throne was unfairly taken. She has now experienced the sexism first-hand, especially since Viserys died. Without him, her opinions don’t count for anything in a male-oriented environment.

Viserys was the reason Alicent had a voice in the first place. He trusted her to do right by their subjects. He also wanted family harmony, which he got for five minutes, all because his sons were being cruel to his grandsons.
