Why Do The Media Still Refer To Catherine, Princess Of Wales As ‘Kate Middleton’?

Kate Middleton

It’s cringeworthy when the media refer to Catherine, Princess of Wales, as Kate Middleton. Why does the press keep calling the future Queen Consort and former Duchess of Cambridge by her pre-martial name? While the Princess of Wales title is linked to Prince William’s dearly departed mother, Diana, it is now tied to his wife, Catherine. However, the world still knows her by the name she used before they were married.

Now, we’ve always respected what Catherine has wanted when being spoken about. On this site, we rarely refer to her as ‘Kate Middleton.’ One of our tags is ‘Catherine Middleton’, a more accessible search result. While watching the Royal News Network’s latest live stream yesterday, Brittany bought up something we’d forgotten about; how content is often found online in search engines and any website with a search box.

Kate Middleton Search Results v. Meghan Markle Search Results

Most people search for content using the most commonly used phrase. In Catherine’s case, ‘Kate Middleton’ is used more than ‘Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge’ or ‘Catherine, Princess of Wales.’ We did a quick Google search, and here’s what we found:

As you can see, the search for ‘Kate Middleton’ took less time and pulled up more results than ‘Catherine, Princess of Wales’. We also quickly searched for Catherine’s sister-in-law, Meghan, as a comparison.

There is a difference between the two searches for Prince Harry’s wife. ‘Meghan Markle’ pulls in more results but takes a little longer to find them than ‘Meghan, Duchess of Sussex’. We do have a theory for this.

In all the media that the Sussexes have had put out by their PR team, Meghan is referred to as ‘The Duchess of Sussex’. However, as Brittany pointed out in her live stream, getting people to adapt to a new one is tricky once you have a name.

‘Kate Middleton’ Is An Easier Search Term

To get eyeballs on media pieces, an easily accessible search term needs to be used, which is why ‘Kate Middleton’ is used more than ‘Catherine, Princess of Wales’ or anything else associated. We can abide by this as we’ve been using Word Stream as a keyword generator, and the site shows the monthly search queries for whatever the keyword is and ‘Kate Middleton’ is at the top of the results.

Kate Middleton Word Stream keywords

The screenshot above is just some of the results for ‘Kate Middleton’. As you can see, ‘Princess Kate’ is second last. What makes this interesting is that the top-of-page bids in the high and low range for ‘Kate Middleton’ aren’t all that high or low. Therefore, we cut the prices out of the screenshot.

Where Does This Put The Meghan Markle Search Results?

So, we cannot discuss ‘Kate Middleton’ search results without going over ‘Meghan Markle’ results as a comparison. If Meghan reads this, we know how she feels about her more beloved sister-in-law. Sorry, Meg, but you’re incredibly transparent. The only reason a large amount Google you is to see what crap you’ve pulled.

Going back to the Meghan Markle search results, you can see just by looking at the numbers that the search results are higher than the ones for Catherine. There are multiple explanations for this. The first is the Sussex Squad. They will do everything they can to inflate those numbers to make her look better than the future Queen Consort.

A second reason for this has to do with the Sussex PR train. When Sunshine Sachs was in charge, they would post stories daily to boost those search results. However, Meghan appears to be in charge of PR as Sunshine Sachs has been dumped. We have no way of knowing if this is true. Given how poor the puff pieces have been, that’s our bet.

Our final point is that views were bought to inflate the numbers, which has been done with Spotify. Do we think Meghan had something to do with it? Yes, we believe she might’ve had something to do with it. No one values constant PR exposure as Markle does.
