Why Do People Hate Rachel Zegler?

Rachel Zegler hate

Why is there so much hate piled on Rachel Zegler? That is the question we’ve been asked to answer. We’ve covered this in part in our article on the Snow White controversy that Rachel Zegler caused. However, this time we wanted to talk about why she has become such an issue within the realm of Hollywood.

So, let’s go into the Rachel Zegler hate, shall we?

Why Is Rachel Zegler Getting So Much Hate?

After a quick search through Reddit, we found the question on the musical forum. The person who wrote the question said they didn’t understand why Rachel Zegler got so much hate over her Snow White comments. Now, to shoehorn in here, we have NOT seen what she said, but we know some of what she said. From what we’ve read, she had a comment about how she didn’t like the Snow White character, yet she was cast in the role for the live-action Disney remake.

To add more context to the Snow White remake situation, the film, despite not being out yet, has been slammed for being too woke. In the original version of the live-action movie, it is believed that the Seven Dwarves were omited. The creative team didn’t want to insult the Little People community by typecasting them. However, this has since been changed to include CGI Dwarves and a large amount of the film was reshot. Hence a release date push back to 2025.

Rachel Zegler Doesn’t Understand The Source Material

Going back over the Rachel Zegler situation, the person who wrote the question did make a good point. The decision to change the part of the story where Snow White is saved by the prince to her not being saved was something the writers wanted and had nothing to do with Rachel personally.

The issue people have with Rachel Zegler is she tends to put her foot in her mouth. As we mentioned in our article on the Snow White situation, the actress came across as ungrateful to be cast in the remake of the movie that was responsible for making Disney the company it is today. Moreover, a commenter also makes a point that the new Snow White isn’t doing anything new. The whole “Snow White isn’t be saved by her prince” thing has been done in other fairytale films.

The Independent Princess Trope Is Not original

Ella Enchanted did it back in 2004. The most recent retelling of Cinderella for Amazon with Camela Cabello did the same. Even Ever After with Drew Barrymore did the same thing in a sense. Many other Disney movies released in the last 15 years have made their princess characters independent and sometimes, princeless. Moana. The remake of The Little Mermaid. Brave. Frozen.

You could also argue that the television series, Once Upon a Time did the same thing in basically making Snow White a warrior princess. If anything, the trope has grown stale.

Why People Get Upset And Examples Of Old Stereotypes

What people who have grown up with the classics get upset about is the woke bunch making these films, making out that what was done previously is offensive to the generation watching now. There is a reason why Disney+ has put a warning on some Disney classics like the original Lady and the Tramp, which depicts Asian stereotypes that were normal when the film was released in 1955. This stereotype was omitted.

The Reddit commenter made the point also that much of what Rachel Zegler has said has been taken out of context. Also, they mention that 1930s Hollywood was more progressive than people think. Snow White was unconscious for a large chunk of the movie, in which she was the star. Also, what annoys people about Rachel Zegler, which contributes to the hate she gets is that she thinks that 1930s was a period where women were oppressed and weren’t allowed to do anything without getting the approval of a man.

Uneducated

Moreover, her comments imply that she is uneducated about the subject matter and era in which the original originated. Rachel also comes across as not liking the idea of women needing to be rescued by men. Everyone, women and men needs to be rescued occasionally. Look at Princess Leia in the first Star Wars movie. She had to be rescued by a man. In the next film, the Empire Strikes Back, Luke Skywalker needs saving and Leia is the one who helps rescue him.

In conclusion, we’re not defending Rachel Zegler or the hate she is getting. She needs to pick her words more carefully. Many people today watch interviews to pick apart everything a person says and to make a big fuss over something that is likely taken way out of context. There are also people who pick apart projects for no reason. There was a case where House of the Dragon was accused of being woke which was then compared to Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, which is woke because the cast and crew can’t accept criticism and ruined the source material to include things that don’t line up with the characters in the book or the Peter Jackson film trilogy.
