Who Is Grogu?

Grogu

He’s become a Star Wars fan favourite. Known originally as The Child, Grogu, a youngling from the same unnamed species as Masters Yoda and Yaddle, has been the co-lead of The Mandalorian since his first appearance at the end of the Season 1 premiere.

So, who is this little cutie? Let’s find out.

Born in 41BBY, the same year as Anakin Skywalker, Grogu was raised at the Jedi Temple. Due to being of the same species as Master Yoda, he grew much slower than the other younglings. He was still a toddler by the end of the Clone Wars, which saw the Galactic Empire’s rise and the Republic’s fall.

Grogu The Jedi

Many masters taught Grogu. Then, when Order 66 was activated, someone smuggled him out of the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, and his memory went dark. By his fiftieth year, Grogu is wanted by a man known as “The Client”, who wants his blood for scientific experiments.

Din Djarin, a Mandalorian bounty hunter, had been paid to capture him. However, he later went on the run with Grogu after realising that the remnants of the Empire wanted to use a kid for nefarious purposes. He later became attached to the child, though he didn’t know his name until he met Ahsoka Tano.

The former Jedi apprentice of fallen Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker, was mentioned as a potential teacher Grogu by her old friend and ally, Bo-Katan Kryze. However, Ahsoka declined to train the youngling. Having been out of the Jedi Order since before Order 66, she feared Grogu could fall to the dark side due to his attachment to his adoptive father. Furthermore, she didn’t want to repeat what happened to her master, who became Darth Vader.

Ahsoka Tells Din To Take Grogu To The Seeing Stone

Tano tells Djarin to take Grogu to Typhon and place him on the seeing stone, and perhaps a Jedi would find him. That Jedi becomes Luke Skywalker, the son of Ahsoka’s late master. Din tearfully gives Grogu to Skywalker, but it will not be the last time they will see each other.

Some time passes, and Din comes to miss Grogu dearly. He goes to the Armorer, who ridicules him for removing his helmet. Mando gives her a Beskar spear that was given to him by Ahsoka. He asks to melt it down for a chainmail shirt for his little friend.

Din takes it where Skywalker has been training Grogu. When he gets there, R2-D2, an old droid friend of the Skywalker family, meets him. R2 then takes him to Ahsoka, who reveals she’s an old friend of the Skywalker family. She takes him to view Grogu and is asked to give Din’s gift to the little Jedi.

Ahsoka gives the gift to Luke, who later makes Grogu choose; Din or his Jedi training. Grogu chooses the chainmail shirt, indicating he wants to return to his dad.
