Who Is Arabella Figg In Harry Potter?

Arabella Figg, Harry Potter

Arabella Figg first appeared in the Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone book. Since then, she has appeared or been referenced throughout the books and appeared once in the films. We’re going to be talking about who she is and what her objective is.

So, let’s jump in, shall we?

Arabella Figg: Squib

Born to at least one magical parent, Arabella Doreen Figg is a squib, a non-magical person born to someone who is magical. Arabella was well-aware of the magical world and could see Azkaban’s guards, the dementors.

She lived in Privet Drive and bred Kneazles, a breed of magic creature, that looked like a cat. In the books, she has a more bitter personality and is known to insult Harry Potter and his cousin, Dudley Dursley. She even throws canned cat food at Mundungus Fletcher.

Harry didn’t know for the longest time that Albus Dumbledore had assigned Arabella Figg to watch over him while living with his uncle and aunt. She made his visits to her house painfully boring, as she didn’t want Petunia and Vernon to stop her from watching him.

Order Of The Phoenix

Mrs Figg was associated with the Order of the Phoenix. She had some affiliation with the group since at least the First Wizarding War, as she allegedly knew Dumbledore during this period. Furthermore, she met with Harry Potter’s godfather, Sirius Black, in 1995 and was informed that Albus was reestablishing the Order.

Also, Arabella knew many of the Order’s members and may have known Harry’s parents, Lily and James Potter. After the Second Wizarding War had concluded, Mrs Figg presumedly survived the war and continued to breed her Kneazles.
