What We Discovered From The Ahsoka Trailer – Our Breakdown!

Disney, Ahsoka, trailer, breakdown

The Ahsoka trailer is finally here! Not only did Star Wars Celebration give us our first official look at the Ahsoka series, but it also gave us a small preview of what is to come for the show. So, in this post, we will be doing our trailer breakdown. Please note that all information we give will be taken from sources that know the story and the characters.

Also, this is just a taste of some of the Ahsoka stuff. We should be getting more at the Ahsoka panel.

The Samurai Connection

Ahsoka, Trailer, Breakdown

Like many Star Wars projects, Ahsoka will be inspired by the old samurai movies. The first shot in the trailer is reflective of that. The first narration is Ahsoka herself saying, “Something’s coming.” This is likely a nod to the return of Grand Admiral Thrawn. Also, if you look closely at the pillars, there are circles of some description. They stand out a bit more in the below shot.

Ahsoka, Trailer, Breakdown

Ahsoka’s narration of “something dark” may allude to several things. The first is the return of Thrawn and his allies, a couple we see in the trailer. All three are lightsaber wielders. One is Ray Stevenson’s character, Baylen Skoll, with the second being Ivanna Sakhno’s Shin Hati. The third is an Inquisitor-looking character who we’ll go over a little later.

Ahsoka might allude to the rise of the First Order as the second thing.

The Lightsaber Hole Through The Floor

Ahsoka, trailer, breakdown

The lightsaber trick Ahsoka uses to get into the temple is a technique she has used before. During Star Wars: The Clone Wars, she used the trick on Mandalore. Also, the markings look like those in the World Between Worlds, and the circle motif is still evident, indicating it might have been a Jedi Temple, as the Jedi Temple on Coruscant had circles everywhere.

One of the more intriguing aspects of this trailer breakdown is the suddenly red Lucasfilm logo. Star Wars has changed its logo colours a few times over the years. However, it is most famous during The Clone Wars, where certain story arcs would have different coloured ‘The Clone Wars’ logos. For example, the R2-D2 arc of episodes had a blue ‘The Clone Wars’ title card, while the Darth Maul arc had a red one. However, the Lucasfilm logo has never changed colour. It looks like they’re taking a leaf out of Marvel’s book.

There is a logical reason why it’s red. The colour likely is to symbolise the darkness that is coming.

Sabine And The Tooka

We see Sabine Wren on Lothal in the tower we saw Ezra frequently in during Rebels. She has coloured her hair the way it was during the first season of Rebels. It is also much longer than before, symbolising the passage of time. She seems to have adopted a Tooka cat.

Ray Stevenson’s narration is heard over the top, saying, “This is a new beginning.”

Are Those MagnaGuards?

Ahsoka, trailer, breakdown

A few shots in the trailer have Ahsoka fighting what looks like another version of the MagnaGuards she fought as a teenager. For those who might not know, the MagnaGuards were the hench droids to General Grievous. These droids are similar though they are not the same.

Hera, Chopper And The Phantom

We also get a first look at Hera Syndulla, played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead. She is piloting the Phantom when she appears for the first time. For those who haven’t watched Rebels, the Phantom is the shuttle that is a backup to the Ghost, which is used for smaller missions.

Her cantankerous astromech, Chopper, is also present.

Lothal

Ahsoka, trailer, breakdown

Ezra’s home is seen at various points throughout the trailer. One shot includes Sabine standing on the tower’s balcony that Rebels begins and ends with. Ahsoka is also the first time that Lothal has appeared in live-action.

“It’s Been A While.”

Ahsoka, Trailer, breakdown

Given the length of Sabine’s hair, it appears this might be the first time in a while that Sabine and Ahsoka have seen each other. Also, there was a shot at the Lucasfilm showcase panel, which showed a shot of Sabine with short hair, a live-action version of the final scene from Rebels with Ahsoka and Sabine.

It appears the scene in the trailer of Ahsoka and Sabine’s meeting happens sometime after that Rebels scene. Sabine’s line, “It’s been a while”, and Ahsoka’s “Things have changed,” implies something happened between that first scene and this one.

Chancellor Mon Mothma And Senators

Remember when we said that there was a detail that most people missed? Well, we’re going to explore here. Of all the people in this shot, Mon Mothma is the most recognisable. However, note the guy standing to her right. That’s Nelson Lee, who DC fans might know as Shiro Ito/Dragon King in Stargirl. He’s also been in Marvel, where he was in Blade The Series. Anyway, Nelson is playing, according to the Ahsoka Wookieepedia page (link above); he’s playing Senator Hamato Xiono. For casual Star Wars fans, that name won’t ring any bells.

However, the name will be familiar to fans of Star Wars Resistance. Hamato is the father of Resistance’s lead character, Kaz Xiono. Could we get references to Kaz in the show? Possibly. Remember, Ahsoka takes place before Resistance.

Also, it appears that Mon is worried about something. Perhaps it has to do with the return of Thrawn.

Thrawn

Ahsoka, trailer breakdown

Speaking of Thrawn, we get a tease in the trailer of the back of Thrawn’s head. Ahsoka also mentions that he is the “Heir to the Empire,” a nod to Timothy Zahn’s original Thrawn Trilogy of books.

In the shot above, it’s unclear where Ahsoka is and who she is talking to, but given the faint blue glow, she could be talking to a certain Force ghost. *coughs* Anakin. *coughs*

Morgan Elsbeth

Fans of The Mandalorian will recognise Morgan Elsbeth from the Season 2 episode, The Jedi. She was the woman who had the beskar spear that Din Djarin later had melted down for a chainmail shirt for Grogu.

“We Have To Prepare For The Worst.”

Here we have Hera outside of the Phantom. We don’t know what the context of this shot means, but note the mon calamari behind her in the blue flight suit. He could be in the same squadron as Zeb, who made his live-action debut in The Mandalorian Chapter 21. Zeb was also wearing a blue flight suit.

The badge with the five spots on Hera’s jacket identifies her as an admiral. Kudos to Erik Voss of New Rockstars, who points out that the badge on Hera’s jacket is for the role of an admiral, not a general. Of course, it makes sense, as she wouldn’t have remained as a general for a decade.

Is That The World Between Worlds?

Ahsoka, trailer, breakdown

So, a few shots look like Ahsoka in the World Between Worlds. It’s unclear if this is where she is, but we’ll find out sooner rather than later.

The Vader Throwback

Ray Stevenson’s character is doing a Darth Vader-esque hallway scene that looks like it was ripped out of Rogue One.

Ezra

We finally got our first look at live-action Ezra! Someone suggested in a video that Sabine might’ve developed feelings for Ezra before he disappeared, so could this be her chance for a second shot?

The Inquisitor?

Earlier in the breakdown, we mentioned that one of the bad guys Ahsoka would have to face is a possible Inquisitor. We’re unsure if this is an Inquisitor, as the Inquisitorius wasn’t in service then. The last group of Inquisitors died on Malachor.

Huyang

Finally, we have David Tennant returning as the lightsaber droid, Professor Huyang from the Clone Wars, who was seen in the footage released at last year’s Celebration.
