Anakin Skywalker is usually only talked about as an adult struggling with his emotions and values. Rarely is Anakin ever spoken about as a young boy. After all, we met him as a child before we saw him as a young man on the cusp of Jedi Knighthood. So, in this post, we will explore Anakin in The Phantom Menace.
While we only see Anakin as a young boy in one film, we glimpse the young man he will become. He is kind to those around him despite being in the same position they are. The person who means the most to him is his mother, Shmi, who would become one of the reasons behind his fall to the dark side.
Being raised in slavery, Anakin learnt from his mother to remain on the bright side. However, he was quickly overcome by silent rage, which he was able to hide. When the Jedi Council evaluated him, they could see his conflict and how much he missed Shmi. They knew this would be a problem, so they initially rejected him. However, this changed when Obi-Wan threatened to train him without the council’s consent after Qui-Gon’s death.
The Young Anakin v. Greedo Deleted Scene
Finally, in a deleted scene from The Phantom Menace, which isn’t canon, Anakin gets into a fight with a young Greedo after the young Rodian accuses him of cheating in the Boonta Eve podrace. From a behind-the-scenes standpoint, George Lucas wanted to set up a plot point that would come up in Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith, Anakin tapping into his aggression. The scene was omitted for story reasons.
