Was The Sussex Car Chase Through New York Set Up? – An Analysis

We thank our Twitter follower, Resting Doll Face, for inspiring this post. By now, we’ve all heard about the “near catasophic” car chase through New York that the Sussexes had to endure, which led them to “fear for their lives.” This is where I want to examine the theory of whether the whole thing was a massive set up.

The first thing is first. We need to stress that this is not an opinion piece. It is an analysis with facts to back up everything we’re saying. We may reference things we cannot prove, so please be aware of that too.

Evidence Of A Set Up: Constant Congested Traffic

A car chase is extremely unlikely for those who have never been to a big city like New York. Why? Because of the constant traffic congestion. Sydney, Australia, is very much the same. You can’t go two metres without seeing a long line of traffic. Sydney traffic is hell.

What New Yorkers Have Said

People who have lived in New York, such as journalist Megyn Kelly and actress Whoopi Goldberg, have said that a car chase is impossible. Why? Again, because of the traffic. It’s a well-known fact that when films are set in New York, they don’t film car chases there. Chases are filmed in a totally different city.

However, some car chases were filmed in New York in the Golden Age of Hollywood. For example, the car chase scene in The French Connection was filmed in Brooklyn without the proper permits. Hollywood directors wouldn’t get away with this now.

The traffic conditions in New York rarely change, and it is impossible to speed at 80 miles in bumper-to-bumper traffic where you’re usually moving at 8 miles. For our readers who use the kilometres metric, 80 miles an hour is about 128 kilometres. In most Australian states, this would be illegal and insanely dangerous. The highest speed limit is 130km in the Northern Territory.

For anyone who has been in the middle of Sydney in the CBD, it is extreme bumper-to-bumper traffic, and you’re constantly competing with public transport.

It is almost impossible to speed through the Sydney CBD. The Sydney CBD is a lot like New York in that respect.

The Diana Connection Of This New York Car Chase Set Up

Next, we the clear nod to Prince Harry’s late mother, Diana, Princess of Wales. She died on August 31st 1997, in a car chase in Paris. When the New York Chase story came out, people immediately realised that this was meant to parallel Diana’s demise that night in Paris.

As we’ve already reported (see links above), Backgrid has come out swinging at the Sussexes for their over-inflated tale of “we’re like Diana! The paparazzi is trying to kill us!”

Paparazzi Culture Has Changed Drastically Since Diana’s Death

Harry loves to blame the British press for everything that has ever happened in his life. But he forgets the most important aspect. Diana was well-known to court the paparazzi and would get upset when they didn’t go away. Also, she died in Paris. Not the UK.

Diana died because her driver was drunk and speeding. She wasn’t wearing a seatbelt. Harry doesn’t seem to understand that. He thinks that the press was to blame for it. While the story is that they were trying to evade the paps that night, evidence suggests that the paparazzi outside the hotel were waved down by Dodi Al Fayed, Diana’s new boyfriend, before they got into the car.

Paparazzi Weren’t Called Out In The Early 2000s; They Showed Up

Moving over to the early 2000s, the paps were notorious for tracking celebrities down and tapping them at their lowest point. Brittney Spears tried to slog one with an umbrella. This was during her mental health crisis when she shaved her hair off. The paps were like Sharks at the first scent of blood; they attacked without thinking of the other person’s wellbeing.

When Catherine Middleton, then in her early 20s, was discovered to be dating Prince William, the press was relentless and cruel regarding stories. For eight years, they called her every name under the sun. She and her sister, Pippa, were called the Wisteria Sisters. There was even a bus with an advert calling Kate “Waity Katy” because she was waiting for William to propose.

On Catherine’s 25th birthday, she was hounded by the paps as she went out to her car to get to work.

When William and Catherine got engaged in late 2010, the pap attacks stopped, and the press changed their tune. Since then, the future Queen has been a media darling, with only a few people critical of her.

Now, however, if a celebrity and yes, some royals, want paparazzi pictures, they call them. They don’t magically appear out of thin air like Harry believes they do. How can a man so close to 40 years of age still think that the thing he believed to have killed his mother is still happening?

Keeping One’s Head Down

Unlike Meghan Markle, Catherine didn’t order William to make a statement condemning the press. She kept her head down, as did her family. It helped them in the long run, and now they’re heavily praised for their resilience.

When you’re a public figure, there will be people who will criticise you. For example, a story came out about a week ago where someone criticised Catherine for wearing costume jewellery. Here’s the thing. People would complain if she wore overly expensive jewels, so Catherine cannot win in this scenario. However, the public isn’t going to care because it makes the Princess of Wales relatable. Sophie wears costume jewellery, too, so why isn’t she being criticised?

Was There A Set Up By The Sussexes To Make It Look Like A Car Chase Had Occurred?

Obsessed With The Diana Car Crash Narrative

Given both Sussexes are obsessed with Diana for different reasons, the “car chase” was one way to get people’s sympathies. However, it backfired because of the traffic congestion. Also, look at the above pictures. Does this look like a couple who is fearful for their lives?

No, it does not. Also, why would they get out of a secure vehicle and into a random taxi? Meghan looks in the above photos like she’s trying to suppress a smile. Harry is the only person who looks even slightly distressed, as he has his phone out. Doria, meanwhile, is off in her own little world.

Any person trained in security knows that you do NOT get into an unsecured vehicle without it being checked for tampering and explosives. Chris Sanchez should know this as he has worked as a secret service agent for President Obama. This would never have happened if the Sussexes were still in the UK.

We all know that Meghan craves the camera. It is like she magnetically pulls towards the camera every time one is pointed at her. She does not live a private life, as she has people write articles that put her in a good light.

If we had to give an opinion, we’d have to say that “yes,” this was a set up. Any person claiming privacy should be seeking it, not going out, setting up pap shots, smiling down the barrel of the camera lens and then claiming harassment.

The People Have Had Enough

When looking at the facts of this whole situation, we all have to think about the people’s reactions. People didn’t bat an eyelid. No one compared it to the crash that killed Diana. If anything, people were turned off by it.

Even Eric Adams, the mayor of New York, said having a car chase there is impossible. The Sussexes have been in freefall since the Oprah interview. However, the release of the Netflix reality series (not a docuseries, no matter what they spin it) and Harry’s memoir Spare has caused their popularity to plummet further.

Hollywood, especially doesn’t give two craps about them. They’re all about loyalty, and Harry and Meghan cannot be trusted. For example, Courteney Cox didn’t want that she has magic mushroom chocolates in her fridge, and Harry spoke to her toilet while he was high.

Final Observation

Finally, all they seem to do is namedrop people, hoping something comes of it. That is wishful thinking on an impossible level. Meghan thinks people will want to be friends because she’s a royal. She doesn’t think about the bigger picture and how people don’t want their privacy invaded. If someone were to do that to her, she would want them sued for privacy invasion. Pot meet kettle.
