We all remember Willem Defoe chewing up the scenery with the dual personality of Norman Osborn/Green Goblin in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man films. But did another version of the character appear in the Andrew Garfield-led Amazing Spider-Man 2? That’s what we’re going to review here.

Before jumping into this post, we have not seen the Amazing Spider-Man films, but we have watched the Raimi movies and Holland films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Green Goblin does appear in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, but it is not the Norman Osborn iteration. Instead, it is the Harry Osborn version. In the movie, Harry returns to Peter’s life after a decade. He was sent away to boarding school after Parker’s parents, Richard and Mary, disappeared.

Harry comes home due to his father, Norman, being terminally ill. Wanting to save his dad, the young Osborn attempts to create a cure for the illness his dad is suffering from. He ends up being too late, and Norman dies.

Harry Becomes Green Goblin

Injecting himself with the potential cure, Harry is transformed into the Green Goblin. However, since his body rejected the medication, he can only heal himself via the infamous gilder. He attempts to use Spider-Man’s blood to cure himself, as Norman gave him the information before he died.

Harry asks Peter to help him find Spider-Man, knowing his best friend has been selling photos to the Daily Bugle. Finally, Peter realises that Harry is suffering from something similar to Doctor Curt Connors, his adversary in the first Amazing Spider-Man film.
