Meghan Markle loves to flaunt her title, but has she stopped using and why? – For someone who claims she had no interest in having a title and yet, insisted on her children having them, Meghan is calling the kettle black, isn’t she? Anyway, that’s not what I wanted to talk about in this Chronicles of Harkle post.
I was going through social media earlier and noticed that there was a news article by Leigh Mcmanus of the Daily Star, which said that Meghan had reverted to her maiden name of being simply “Meghan Markle.” Before I continue, I want to mention that the linked Daily Star article talks about Meghan filing a response to her half-sister, Samantha Markle’s defamation lawsuit against her.
Before the Sugars come at me, this is not an isolated incident. There are a few possibilities why Meghan has not used her title.
Going to the second incident, I want to refer to the first preview for Meghan’s upcoming Spotify podcast series, “Archetypes,” which neglects to mention her title. Now, I haven’t listened to the preview, but I have seen the transcript. Not once does it refer to Meghan as “The Duchess of Sussex.” The Body Language Guy mentions this in his latest video. However, Jesús mentions that she is referred to by her title in the description of the podcast statement.
The Reasons Why The Duchess Of Sussex Title Mightn’t Have Been Used
There are endless reasons why Meghan might not have used her beloved title. Having her not use it is almost unheard of. In the last four years since she married Harry, all she’s done is use her title to get ahead. As for the reason, let’s break them down.
Pending Divorce Announcement
Okay, so the first one we need to go over is a likely divorce. Given how odd it was to have Meghan not use her title for public announcements, it makes you wonder if there’s something bigger stirring in the background.
Now, Meghan not using her title might not mean divorce at all. It might mean something like she wants to be a one-name wonder.
One-Name Wonder
Rihanna. Madonna. Adele. Bono. Zendaya. All these singers use only one name. I’m sure you’re wondering why I’d bring this up. During the Archetypes – another stolen concept it seems, if social media is correct – preview Meghan only calls herself “Meghan.” Not “Meghan, Duchess of Sussex.” Not “Rachel.” Not Meghan Markle. Just Meghan.
This, ultimately, makes us think that she’s trying something out to see if it works when and if her marriage falls apart. The whole world knows her as Meghan Markle or Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex. Either way, using just her first name (or rather middle name) isn’t going to make a difference.
Court Case – What Is Outlined In Documents
So, the third point I wanted to talk about is why Meghan’s name is “Meghan Markle” in Samantha’s court documents. While we don’t know the exact reason behind this, it would make sense that Sam wanted to fight her sister as exactly that, sister v. sister and not a random civilian v. a British royal.
Having seen much of what Samantha has said about Meghan, she doesn’t care if her little sister has a title or not. She is her sister. Plain and simple, and she’s fed up with Meghan trashing everyone, especially their father.
Would Meghan Let Her Title Go?
We know how Meghan loves being “the Duchess of Sussex.” She does not deserve to hold such a title, and she knows it. However, she needs it to make brand deals as she wouldn’t get them as Meghan Mountbatten-Windsor or as Meghan Markle. CEOs will take people with foreign titles over regular joes.
Though, we need to ask another question here. In the case of a divorce, would Meghan let her title go? In my opinion, no, she would not. She’d essentially pull a Fergie, who uses her former title. For her latest book, Fergie is credited as Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York. Also, on the engagement announcements for her two daughters, she and her ex-husband were mentioned together as the Duke and Duchess of York.
Returning to Meghan, if she and Harry divorce, she will become Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, and nothing more. She and Harry had their HRHs put into abeyance but maintained the dukedom. If Harry were to remarry, his new wife would become HRH The Duchess of Sussex.
An example I would reluctantly use is William and Harry’s maternal uncle, Charles Spencer. He has been married three times, and each of his wives has been Countess Spencer.
The Spencer family is aristocratic and has no direct ties to the monarchy outside of William and Harry.
The Earldom that Charles Spencer has is not linked to the royals, in any way, as far as I am aware. I could be wrong, of course. Just for the record, the Spencer Earldom is passed down from father to eldest son upon the current earl’s death.
Going back to Meghan, she may revert to being Meghan Markle if there is a divorce and Harry remarries. We may never know.
