Crown Princess Mary has earned her place in history as the first Australian-born Queen of Denmark, and there are no doubts that Meghan Markle is somehow fuming. While it is doubtful the two commoners turned royal women have ever met, we need to break something to the sugars; they are nothing alike.
We’ve addressed this before on Project Fangirl but felt that it needed to be addressed before our Mary becomes Queen Mary. There’s an opinion piece coming about that, don’t worry.
While there is a handful of similarities between Meghan Markle and Mary, there is also a ton of differences, which is what we’ll be exploring.
Laws
When Mary married Frederik in 2004, there was a law passed in the Danish parliament called Mary’s Law. This decree allowed any foreign royal spouse to have Danish citizenship. Mary had to forefeit her dual Australian and British citizenship upon her marriage.
Meghan Markle never had a law named after her. Also, she never had to give up being an American citizen.
A New Language
Upon her engagement to Crown Prince Frederik, Mary had to learn to speak Danish, Meghan Markle never had to learn a new language. Yes, we’re aware she supposedly knows French and Spanish.
It also only took Mary about 18 months to become fluent. Though her children have joked that she speaks the language with an Australian accent.
However, we need to stress that just because you know a couple of a words or phrases, doesn’t mean you know the whole language. Can Meghan write or read in French or Spanish? We’ll wait.
Mary Doesn’t Complain When Things Don’t Go Her Way – Meghan Markle Does
Mary had a lot to learn when she became a Danish royal. Sure things have not always gone her way, but she doesn’t go on national television and complain about it and she hasn’t written a book about her grievences. You didn’t see her go on television and blast her husband for walking out of another woman’s apartment in Madrid. No, instead, you had her facial expressions tell a whole story without her having to say anything. Also, Queen Letizia had Mary’s back in the aftermath.
Meghan Markle has done the total opposite of Mary. She has ordered her lapdog, Omid Scobie to write two books, Finding Freedom and Endgame. Not to mention, her fingerprints were all over Harry’s memoir, Spare. There has been several interviews done by the former actress that have been done with the goal threatening and damaging the British Royal family in the form of podcasts, televised interviews and print interviews.
Finally, there are Danish people who don’t like Mary for whatever reason. Mary doesn’t complain about it, though if it were Meghan Markle, all she’d do is complain.
