Hackers love money to the point they will hack your social media accounts and masquerade as you. We started the Fighting Cybercrimes section because we didn’t want people to fall into the trap we did. So, in this post, we’re going to address what you should do if your social media accounts are hacked.
So, let’s start with not panicking. If you find that one of your social media accounts is hacked, don’t panic. A lot of the time, you can wrestle control back, but you need to have specific measures in place for it to work.
For example, if your Facebook account has been hacked like ours, and you still have access to it via an app, change the email and phone number back and lock it so only you can access it. It makes it harder for the hacker. to continue abusing your account.
While we didn’t do this, if this ever happens again, we’ll be sure to do this. Ensure the associated social media apps are open on your phone or tablet. If you are hacked, it will be easier to regain control.
Take Screenshots Of Social Media Interactions That Might Be Odd
Suppose you can report the account to the platform. Create a second account in case. You are unable to get control back. Another tip we can provide is that you should not ask someone offering free services for help. If you know the person, go ahead, but if they’re a stranger, don’t, as you could become a victim of a scam.
We’ve mentioned in other posts always to screenshot odd interactions with people. This may prove helpful if you ever have to prove you were hacked. Also, report the hack to Scamwatch, depending if you have a similar system in place in your country or if you have to say to your country’s Cybercrimes unit.
Finally, if you have credit cards attached, disconnect them and report the situation to your financial institution.
