Could Emma Roberts play Mary Parker, Peter Parker’s mother, in Madame Web? A new rumour regarding who Emma Roberts will play in the upcoming Madame Web film, starring Dakota Johnson, has suggested she could be playing Mary Parker. However, the question is whether we would get her in the MCU since Spidey is back. We may come back to this question in a later post. Hmm. Could she potentially appear in a spin-off with Kraven, played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson?
For those who mightn’t know, Mary Parker is the mother of Peter Parker, the most well-known of the Spider-Men. According to Heroic Hollywood, Emma Roberts plays Mary while Adam Scott plays Ben Parker, Peter’s uncle. Also, what happened to Uncle Ben in the MCU? So many questions that Sony ‘verse won’t answer for us.
Background On Mary Parker
A little bit of background on Mary Parker. In the comics, she and her husband, Richard Parker, were S.H.I.E.L.D. agents or C.I.A agents, depending on the story, who were killed, and their son had to grow up with his Aunt May and Uncle Ben.
It has been suggested via set photos that Emma Roberts plays a character in Madame Web that is pregnant. Another suggestion by the Direct is that Emma could play Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman, who was also pregnant in the comics at some point.
No concrete evidence suggests that Emma is playing either of these characters. However, a lot of this information has come from an exclusive from Cosmic Circus, as they were the source for the Heroic Hollywood article. So now, we need to stress that NOTHING is confirmed. The only casting with a character attached is Dakota Johnson’s Madame Web.
There has also been speculation that Sydney Sweeney’s character is Julia Carpenter, the second Madame Web and a successor to the Spider-Woman mantle. Again, this is what Cosmic Circus is reporting. Unfortunately, the film is still over a year off, so it will be a while until we officially confirm anything.
Madame Web Will Have Rivals Coming
Sony is really trying to make big bucks with its Marvel Universe, which is made up primarily of Spider-Man characters. Morbius didn’t do great, to our knowledge. This comes despite it being on the shelf for almost two years due to the pandemic. Also, we have Kraven the Hunter with Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Russell Crowe.
Also, Olivia Wilde has her own Spider-Character project coming. However, they haven’t announced who the film will focus on, as there are plenty of characters she could use. In addition, she still has Don’t Worry Darling to come out. So, her focus will be on that until after its release.
Finally, the third Venom film has been greenlit. It has been speculated that Eddie Brock will venture over into the MCU. This comes from the post-credit scenes from Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Madame Web is due to drop in early October 2023. UPDATE: The release date has been moved to early 2024.
