Lucy Liu Joins Shazam! 2 As The Villain Kalypso

Lucy Liu

They don’t come as well known as Lucy Liu…

Lucy Liu is joining Shazam! Fury of the Gods as one of the three daughters of Atlas, according to Full Circle Cinema. This makes her character, Kalypso, a sister of Helen Mirren’s villain, Hespera. West Side Story’s Rachel Zegler is allegedly playing the third of the Titan sisters.

When it comes to pop culture, they don’t come as iconic as Lucy Liu. She has played roles in both Kill Bill films, kicked some serious ass in two Charlie’s Angels movies, and played a gender-bent version of John Watson in Elementary where she portrayed Joan Watson, the sidekick of Jonny Lee Miller’s Sherlock Holmes.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods will see the return of Zachary Levi and Asher Angel in the role of Billy Batson/Shazam while the other actors who play Batson’s foster siblings and their superhero counterparts will all be back as part of the Shazam Family.

The Shazam! sequel will be the second of two films to feature characters from the Shazam mythology. The first will be Black Adam which will star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as Teth-Adam/Black Adam and Pierce Brosnan as Kent Nelson/Doctor Fate.

Black Adam is pictured briefly in the first Shazam! film as a fiery looking hologram. A fun fact is that Teth-Adam was originally supposed to appear in not just Shazam! but James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad as the main villain but this was ultimately scrapped. This is what lead to the character receiving his own movie before he joined any others.

It is going to be fascinating to see how Lucy Liu fares as a villain. It’s going to be sooo much fun!

Shazam! Fury of the Gods drops into cinemas in 2023.
