King Abdullah Skirts Around Condemning Hamas

King Abdullah, Hamas

King Abdullah II of Jordan has skirted around condemning Hamas in a Tweet on the Royal Hashemite Court Twitter account. A statement put out on behalf of the monarch of Jordan stops short of criticising the terror group, while implying he will back the Palestinian cause.

While it might be disappointing to some that he did condemn Hamas, King Abdullah is walking a metaphorical tightrope as he is the monarch and Palestine is his king’s ally. However, that should not stop him from calling out the war crimes that have been committed.

King Abdullah is trying to be diplomatic and not stir the pot any further than it has been. In a second tweet from the RHC Twitter account, the monach stresses “there can be no peace or stability without comprehensive resolution of the Palestinian issue.”

Not all Palestinians are siding with Hamas. We’ve see comments across social media of how some are pro-Palestine but anti-Hamas. That’s okay. It’s like how a lot of Germans didn’t support the Nazi regime. Moreover, this statement never states that the King of Jordan is siding with Hamas, just the Palestinian side.

Hamas started the attack because they felt wronged. However, Israel has a right to fight back. Regardless of the religious stance, the killing of innocent people is biggest war crime of them all. It is understandable that King Abdullah wants to broker peace, but he has to be incredibly careful with what he says, otherwise, he might find the conflict spreading over to Jordan, which is something he will not want.
