Happy 18th Birthday, Lady Louise! Will She Use Her Titles?

Louise

The British Royals haven’t had too much to celebrate in recent months; given the crap a specific couple has dished out. Not to mention, their beloved patriarch, Prince Philip, died earlier in the year. However, there is something worth celebrating after all. The Queen’s youngest granddaughter, Lady Louise, is now 18! Where has all that time gone? We remember when she was a flower girl at Prince William and Catherine’s 2011 wedding.

Louise, the eldest child of Prince Edward, and his wife, Sophie, the Countess of Wessex, have been forging her own path in recent months. Since her grandfather’s death, she has continued to participate in carriage driving as it was something they did together.

Unlike her cousins William, Harry, Beatrice and Eugenie, Louise does not carry a HRH title. Moreover, neither do the eldest of her cousins, Peter Phillips and Zara Tindall. However, this may change today.

Since Louise is a reigning monarch’s grandchild, she is eligible to hold a HRH title like the rest of her cousins. However, when she was born, her parents declined the offer for her to have a princely title but agreed to allow her to decide for herself once she turned 18. If she accepts her title, then she will likely be Princess Louise.

Daughter Of An Earl

Unlike Beatrice and Eugenie, Louise is the daughter of an Earl, which is why she is styled as Lady Louise rather than Princess Louise. Upon Edward and Sophie’s wedding day, The Queen gave her son the title of the Earl of Wessex rather than a Dukedom like Prince Andrew got when he married Fergie. However, she [He Majesty] promised that upon her death and that of Prince Philip, her youngest son would become the Duke of Edinburgh. Hence, Sophie would become the Duchess of Edinburgh as the Queen once was before she became monarch.

Currently, Prince Charles holds the title of Duke of Edinburgh as he is the heir to the moniker as the Queen is living. Once she passes, it will revert to the Crown. Hopefully, the Prince of Wales will give his youngest brother the title, as was previously discussed.

Going back to the birthday girl, Louise allegedly will be encouraged to take on a title, according to Charlie Pittock of the Express, as she is The Queen’s favourite grandchild. Odd because we thought Harry was the favourite. Wow. That would sting his ego more than a little bit.

Anyway, have a great day, Lady Louise!
