Dancing With The Stars: First Show Jitters Aren’t Bad Things… Are They? – Week 1

The reality Dance series sees celebrities from the Entertainment industry jump out of their comfort zones. Dancing with the Star Australi is back and better than ever. This year’s competition heated up with new judges, hosts, and a new cast of personalities!

With the first week done of the show and dusted, the celebrities can breathe now that their first dance is over and down. However, their relief won’t last long as they must prepare another dance for next week. The audience at home and there in the studio has it easy. I feel sorry for the celebrities. Anyway, let’s look at the dances in the order they were performed.

1. Miguel and Megan

The first celeb to make their debut is the chef and host Amanda Keller’s buddy, Miguel Maestre, who dances the cha-cha.

From the moment he stepped out on the floor for his first appearance on his show, his footwork might look awkward, but it’s only the first week. In reality, he’s also a larger-than-life character, so it was great to see. According to Amanda, she saw him talking throughout the routine.

Miguel’s score is: 13

2.   Michelle and Aric

Fitness guru Michelle Bridges might know what it’s like to be in charge, but with the dancing. Not so much. Her first dance with partner Aric is the cha-cha.

Some of her movements are a bit clunky, but it’s the first dance she’s done. However, her outfit did most of the work.

Michelle’s score is: 16

3. Olympia and Jarryd

Former Neighbours actress Olympia Valance can act, but can she dance the Tango?

Olympia’s speed is a little slow, but her technique appears in time with the music. There was drama and suspense, and the lifts were crowd-pleasing, but there’s a lot she needs to work on.

Olympia’s score is: 17

4. Jett and Lily – It’s The Thor And Sif Show!

Coming from a famous family, Jett is a model and a competitive surf saver with the looks of Thor.

Jett’s energy is vital, and he’s a little slow in places, but he had a lot of fun doing the cha-cha. He has an excellent natural rhythm, but he sometimes loses technique.

Jett’s score is: 12

5. Denise and Jeremy – Show That New Side!

Funny lady Denise Scott is fun to watch and add to the show and is tasked with Viennese Waltz. What could go wrong?

For an older competitor, she has excellent eye contact with her partner and beginning as an actor; she has a sexiness and sultriness no one knew she had. And her timing was good, which is pretty good for the show’s first episode.

Denise’s score is: 14

6. Jimmy and Alex – Show That Grit!

Children’s entertainer Jimmy Rees didn’t realise how hard it would be to ch-cha when he had three young sons.

Jimmy’s commitment to his performance is strong despite the awkwardness, sloppiness, and lack of cha-cha.

Jimmy’s score is: 16

7. Curtly and Siobhan

Former West Indies Cricket player Curtly was a powerhouse in the 90s and is 6 foot 8. The Viennese Waltz would always be a challenge with a partner like Siobhan and dancing.

Curtly’s performance was fun to watch, but he did stuff up a few times. Because of his height, he danced down to his partner, who isn’t a good thing.

Curtly’s score is: 10

8. Constance and Gustavo

Mother of seven and blogger Constance Hall is used to the internet bullies, but how will she deal with the judges when she dances the cha-cha with partner Gustavo?

Being the free spirit she is, Constance’s performance is incredibly uplifting and inspiring for all the people who have been bullied and trolled out there.

Constance’s score is: 17

9. Cassandra and Marco

She’s the ex-wife of Karl Stefanovic, who was cruelly dumped for a younger woman. Cass Thorburn has endured months of torment from the media over the breakdown of her marriage, her divorce and her ex’s new marriage. Nevertheless, she’s determined to take back her life and begin anew. First thing’s first on her bucket list. She wants to learn to dance.

Viennese Waltz is Cass’s first dance, and Craig Revel Horwood’s comments have created a backlash on social media. Cass has taken the comments from all three judges in stride. However, her score might get her sent home if the scores don’t pick up next week. Personally? I loved it. I can’t dance, so I’m rooting for her. Go, Cass!

Cassandra’s score is: 10

10. Samuel and Jorja

Actor Samuel Johnson has been through a lot in the last couple of years. He’s lost his sister Connie to cancer and has become a pioneer in cancer campaigning. However, how will he become a dancer as he performs the Tango with partner Jorja?

Sam gave it his all with his first dance and scored well. Not to mention Tristan MacManus said it was the dance of the night. That is until Craig put his foot in it when Courtney Act performed a few minutes later.

Samuel’s score is: 20

 11. Courtney and Joshua – A Show Of Her Own!

She’s an accomplished drag queen, but Courtney Act is using both her personas. During rehearsals, she’s her usual persona Shane Jenek while going onto the dance floor as Courtney.

Courtney’s performance was the showstopping number of the night. Her performance knocked everyone off their chairs. Despite her experiences as a singer, she also has some dance training for her music videos.

Courtney’s score is: 23

Who Was Eliminated?

Because the competition is only in the first week, no one went home, but that changes next week when the first couple gets the chop.

To keep your favourite star in the competition and on the show, be sure to vote on TenPlay or text 1995 1010 with your preferred celeb’s name.

Dancing with the Stars AU week two begins at 7:30 pm next Monday on Channel 10!
