Actress Amber Heard has been forced to give up her defamation lawsuit against her ex-husband, Johnny Depp. Instead, she is settling the case. According to the Guardian, the actress who famously accused the 21 Jump Street actor of domestic abuse during their two-year marriage decided to drop the lawsuit where Johnny sued her for defaming him. She countersued him when one of his lawyers called her claims “a hoax.”
Initially, she was supposed to pay Depp $10 million in damages, and he was meant to pay her $2 million during the original lawsuit. Amber has become well-known for her over-the-top theatrics during the trial. Johnny infamously sued The Sun in the UK for claiming he was “a wife beater.” He lost that case but mostly won the defamation case because he had evidence to back up his claims. Though, the court did conclude that he and Heard defamed each other.
Amber announced the defamation case’s end on Instagram, claiming she had “told her truth”, according to 9News. Johnny’s lawyers responded, saying that Mr Depp can “finally close the painful chapter.”
Johnny sued Amber over a 2018 op-ed she wrote for the Washington Post. She claimed he was abusive toward her despite not mentioning him by name. Unfortunately, amber follows the wok crowd and believes she is a spokeswoman for abused women, despite her history of abusing former partners.
Amber Underestimated Johnny’s Exes
Many of Depp’s exes, including the mother of his children, Vanessa Paradis, former fiancée Winona Ryder and famously, ex-girlfriend Kate Moss backed him. They said he was nothing but a gentleman when they were with him. However, according to Vanity Fair, one former partner, Ellen Barkin, claimed he was violent towards her when he threw a wine bottle at her in the late 90s.
Depp has famously owned up to his demons, which include drinking obsessively and drug use. The drug and alcohol use was bought on by an abusive childhood at the hands of his mother, as per People Magazine. This was backed up in court by Johnny’s sister, Christi, who said they would run and hide as children.
