They were the couple that met on the set of 102 Dalmatians. Together for 22 years, actors Alice Evans and Ioan Gruffudd seemed to have a picturesque marriage. However, at some point, it fell apart. While their careers were in two very different places, they kept whatever was going on in their private lives away from the public.
So, that begs the question of what happened and how did this spat become public? Before we jump into that, we’re going to backtrack to the early days of Alice and Ioan’s relationship.
A Jump Back In Time
Alice and Ioan met in 1999 on the set on 102 Dalmatians, the sequel to the 1996 film 101 Dalmatians. In the movie, Evans played Chloe Simon, a parole officer who is given Cruella De Vil as a charge. Gruffudd played her love interest, Kevin Sheppard, a dog shelter owner who is friends of one of Chloe’s parolees.
After the film had wrapped, Alice and Ioan got together before they married eight years later in 2007. They had two young daughters.
Ioan’s career took off at a fast pace. He was cast as Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic in Tim Story’s Fantastic Four and its 2007 sequel. Gruffudd also appeared in the mini-series, Liar and The CW thriller Ringer, starring Sarah Michelle Gellar.
However, Alice’s career didn’t create the same waves as her husband’s did. She was cast in small films and television series including, The Vampire Diaries franchise. She retired in 2015. According to Susan Knox of the Mirror, Ioan encouraged Alice to bid farewell to her acting career.
Thie came out after Alice hit back at a troll online who said she was after her husband’s money. She revealed, according to Susan Knox’s article (linked above), that it was a decision she and Ioan made as a couple. She said that since they were both actors, it was difficult for them to work in the same location and that someone had to look after their daughters.
When The News Broke And The Escalation
In January 2021, Jen Juneau of People Magazine wrote that Alice had posted to her Twitter account that her husband would be leaving the family and that she and their daughters were sad. In 2020, Ioan told The Guardian that he and his wife had been struggling for four years to be there for each other.
During recent weeks, Alice has come out swinging with accusations that Ioan had been unfaithful to her. She posted jabs out the alleged affair to her Twitter account. According to what she has posted, Ioan was having his fling around the time Christmas 2019 rolled around, indicating the affair was going on for at least three years, leading up to this year.
Ioan filed for divorce in March 2021 according to tabloid magazine, US Weekly’s Johnni Macke.
Later, Ioan went public with his new girlfriend which didn’t sit well with Alice who has accused his new partner of convincing him to leave her and the children.
Vocal vs. Silence
Alice has been incredibly vocal about her relationship with her estranged husband. However, Ioan has remained silent on everything, except the announcement of the divorce.
Now, the children should ALWAYS be put first. Whatever animosity is between the parents, the kids should NEVER be put in the middle. Look at what has been happening with Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt as an example.
The kids didn’t ask for their parents to separate and were not the reason behind it.
We’re also not taking sides as there is only half the story in the public eye. Did Alice have to publicly accuse her husband of adultery online of all places? No, she didn’t. While we understand that she’s upset and frustrated, she has to think about how what she is saying affects her daughters. If they end up on social media when they’re older and see what she has written about their father then it could turn even nastier than it already is.
If anything, both Alice and Ioan are guilty as each other. As we just mentioned, the separation and divorce should not be broadcast for the whole world to see. Meanwhile, if Ioan did cheat, then he never should’ve gotten married.
Finally, there’s more to the story that we haven’t included in this post. The situation is just too jumbled for us to make heads or tails of it.
