10 Of The Biggest Authors Right Now

library interior

Some of the biggest books today have been written by authors who have become massive hits in their own right. From fantasy lands full of war and fae to fun STEM romances, there is something for everyone.

In this post, we’re going to be looking at some of the biggest authors that are releasing books right now. Before we start, we want to thank Goodreads, who put together a list back in March 2024 of the writers we’ll be discussing here. The authors mentioned in this post are in no particular order.

1.    Freida McFadden – Queen of Mysteries And Psychological Thrillers

We were introduced to Freida McFadden’s work via royal YouTuber Royal Daily Tea, who has listened to a number of the Housemaid books on audiobook.

Personally, we’ve wanted to read Freida’s work for a while, but haven’t had the chance to.

Books in her backlog include:

  • The Housemaid
  • The Housemaid’s Secret
  • The Housemaid Is Watching
  • Ward D
  • The Perfect Son

2.    Ali Hazelwood – Romance and STEM

The first time we knew the name Ali Hazelwood was when we saw the cover for The Love Hypothesis. The guy and girl bore a striking resemblance to Adam Driver and Daisy Ridley who starred in the Star Wars sequels.

We learned later that the book was allegedly written initially as Reylo (Rey and Kylo Ren) fanfiction.

Ali’s backlog includes:

  • Bride
  • The Love Hypothesis
  • Check & Mate
  • Love On The Brain
  • Not In Love

3.    Taylor Jenkins Reid – a #Booktok Queen

Taylor Jenkins Reid is one of the most recognisable names on this list for a few reasons. The first is that she covers a range of genres. The second is that her most famous work Daisy Jones & The Six has been made into a television series.

Taylor’s backlog includes:

  • The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo
  • Evidence of the Affair
  • Daisy Jones & The Six
  • After I Do
  • Malibu Rising
  • Maybe In Another Life
  • Carrie Soto Is Back

4.    Emily Henry  – Queen of Happy Romance

A big author that keeps coming up on our radar is Emily Henry, best known for her romance books. We’ve seen so many Booktubers talk about her. Some don’t like her, but we cannot judge as we’ve never read any of her novels.

Some of Emily Henry’s biggest books include:

  • Beach Read
  • People We Meet On Vacation
  • Book Lovers
  • Happy Place

5.    Colleen Hoover  – There’s A Movie Coming!

Another big romance author is Colleen Hoover. We’ve seen a ton of her books. One of her books has just become a movie starring Blake Lively. A theme in Hoover’s books is normalising abuse, which is, understandably controversial. She is also the second most followed person on Goodreads.

Some of Colleen Hoover’s backlog includes:

  • It Ends With Us (has been adapted into a movie)
  • Verity
  • Ugly Love
  • It Starts With Us (a sequel to It Ends With Us)

6.    Rick Riordan  – The Lord of Greek Mythology

One of our favourite authors is Rick Riordan, the man who wrote Percy Jackson. He has written a whole franchise of books and there have been two movies and a television series based on his work.

Also, we’re including Riordan because he is one of the most followed Authors on Goodreads. Some of Rick’s works include:

  • The Lightning Thief
  • The Last Olympian
  • Daughter of the Deep
  • The Red Pyramid
  • The Lost Hero

7.    Kristin Hannah

Kristin Hannah is a former attorney who has written over 20 books and has won awards.

Some of Kristin Hannah’s books include:

  • The Women
  • The Great Alone
  • The Four Winds
  • Firefly Lane
  • The Nightingale

8.    Stephen King  – The Reigning King Of Horror

Stephen King is the undisputed King of Horror. However, many people don’t know that he also writes for other genres, which we didn’t know until Haley Pham mentioned in one of her book videos. So, some of Mister King’s most famous books include:

  • Carrie
  • Kujo
  • It
  • The Shining
  • Doctor Sleep
  • Skeleton Crew
  • Misery
  • The Green Mile

9.    Lucy Foley

We’ve never read a Lucy Foley book, but we have heard that most of her novels which sit in the murder-mystery and thriller genres, are essentially the same. We’re not going to judge as we haven’t read her books personally. They must be okay if multiple books are popping up in the most-read books in the Goodreads Reading Challenge for 2024 list.

  • The Guest List
  • The Paris Apartment
  • Last Letter from Istanbul
  • The Midnight Feast
  • The Invitation

10. Madeline Miller – A Queen Of Greek Mythology

BookTok made Madeline Miller a massive hit when one of her books became a bestseller.

Madeline’s backlog of books include:

  • Circe
  • The Song of Achilles
  • Galatea
  • Heracles’ Bow
