Who Is James In Twilight?

James, Twilight

With the Twilight Saga about to return to our screens in a new television series, we thought we’d go over the original antagonist of the first book: James. It is revealed in Twilight that the character of James is a nomad vampire turned in 1805. He was born towards the end of the American Revolution. In the Twilight film, Cam Gigandet plays James.

In the first book, Twilight, James finds a mate in Victoria and forms a trio with Laurent. His unique Vampire ability was a strong tracking sense. In addition, they all love hunting humans and feasting on their blood. So when Edward Cullen of the Olympian coven started dating human Isabella Swan, the nomads took it upon themselves to pursue her.

James Targets Bella

Seeing how protective Edward was of Bella, James wanted to kill her for sport, so he made it his life’s mission to see to it. Also, he, Victoria and Laurent chose not to blend in with the humans, making it unnecessary for them to watch humanity closely.

Moreover, in the book, James was later killed by Emmett Cullen and Jasper Hale of the Olympian coven. However, in the first Twilight film, Emmett, Jasper and Jasper’s mate, Alice Cullen, kill James.

Finally, given that James was the coven’s leader, Victoria and Laurent disbanded, going their separate ways. Victoria would hunt the Cullens and Bella and form an army of Newborn vampires to reap her revenge. She would later be killed also. The Uley tribe of werewolves would kill Laurent.

James’ reign on terror is one of the factors that made Bella decide she wanted to become a vampire as she could protect herself.
