What Was Harry Potter: The Prequel About?

James and Sirius

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was released in 2007 to much fanfare. In 2008, J.K. Rowling released an 800-word short prequel story set three years before Harry’s birth. The adventure was about James Potter and Sirius Black, Harry’s father and godfather, respectfully, after they left Hogwarts. It was written as an unofficial prequel.

The prequel story was written as part of a charity event, fetching up to 25k pounds in the U.K. The manuscript was stolen in 2017 during a theft in Birmingham. J.K. Rowling tweeted about the crime and advised her followers that if they were offered the story, not to buy it.

Moreover, the prequel story is available on Muggle Net for anyone who wants to read it.

In the story, James and Sirius are pursued by the Muggle police. They end up trapped in an alleyway, wedged between the back of the alley and the police car. The Police attempt to get them for speeding on Sirius’s motorbike, which is faster than any muggle motorbike could ever be.

The boys give the police fake names (typical of James and Sirius) but then provide their real names; James Potter and Sirius Black. Something draws their attention, prompting them to pull their wands. Three men then fly into the alley on brooms.

The men on brooms plough into the upturned police car, allowing James and Sirius to get away. The police car is then put back into its right position. The policemen then hold each other in fright as they watch the two teenage boys take off.

Doesn’t Give Much Away

The story is short and sweet, but doesn’t convey much about James and Sirius after Hogwarts, only that they’re still forever troublemakers.
