What Is The It Ends With Us Drama?

It Ends With Us Drama

Usually, we don’t jump into celebrity drama, but since the film adaptation of It Ends With Us came out, we felt we had to. We’ve seen so many social media posts on this alleged feud, that we had to comment.

Let’s jump back for a second.

Backstory To The It Ends With Us Drama

It Ends With Us is a book by Colleen Hoover about breaking the cycle of domestic violence. Moreover, the novel centres around Lily Bloom, a woman who grew up in a home filled with abuse. As an adult, she falls in love with Ryle Kincaid, who upon their relationship turning serious, reveals his violent tendencies.

According to the Associated Press, the book was a passion project for Colleen Hoover because of her own experiences growing up with a violent father and her mother finding the courage to leave. It Ends With Us was published in 2016 with a sequel, It Starts With Us, having released in 2022.

The book was then optioned to become a film of the same name, starring Blake Lively. The movie was directed, executive produced and costarred Justin Baldoni (of Jane the Virgin fame) as Ryle Kincaid.

Blake Lively’s History

Blake Lively is a producer on It Ends With Us. She has been in the news a few times over the years due to alleged behaviour. According to Harper’s Bazaar, it is rumoured that she fell out with Leighton Meester while filming the series, Gossip Girl.

It is believed that Leighton and Blake “avoided each other like the plague” while they were on set. Lively’s publicist even weighed into the alleged rumour, confessing that the two actresses never proclaimed to be best friends. This is the closest that there was to a confirmation.

One rumour even suggested that Leighton thought Blake was “egotistical.”

Now, we jump to recent times. When Catherine, the Princess of Wales released a photo with her three children was criticised for photoshopping, Blake weighed in by intentionally creating a botched picture to promote her drinks brand, Betty Buzz. She didn’t mention the future queen by name.

This caused a massive stir when it came out that the Princess of Wales was suffering from cancer. As per Yahoo, Blake made a half-assed apology and removed the image.

Explaining The It Ends With Us Drama

There are so many different rumours surrounding the feud between Blake and Justin. A recent article by Yahoo goes so far as to compare it to the drama behind the scenes of Don’t Worry Darling.

The reason why people believe there is drama stems from the little interaction Justin and Blake have had while doing press for the film.

Justin only attended the New York premiere, but not the one in the UK. There were also no pictures of him and Blake or him and anyone else on the red carpet. It gets even more complicated because it is alleged that Ryan Reynolds might have a part to play in the It Ends With Us drama.

As per Deadline, Blake confessed in an interview with E! News that Ryan wrote the iconic rooftop scene and the screenwriter, Christy Hall, had no idea, believing it was improvised.

The drama goes even deeper. It is speculated that due to Blake having more creative control over the film, there were two cuts. One version of the film was done by the same editor who edited Reynolds’ Deadpool and Wolverine.

In regards to social media, there is a whole video on all the different TikToks that have been compiled on this from Pop Crave.

Bad PR

Justin follows Blake and Colleen on Instagram, but they do not follow him back. They did before the feud allegedly happened. Also, Hoover has put her TikTok account on private while Baldoni has also gotten comments asking what is going on.

Also, what many people are questioning is why did Blake use the film, which is about domestic violence, to promote her new haircare brand, Blake Brown? Why not make the press tour about raising awareness about the topic of the film, rather than it be lighthearted? Also, it is entirely possible, as pointed out in the above video that the whole reason there is drama is due to the strange drop for the haircare line.

Not to mention, Justin’s films in the past have been about serious subject matter. He takes every topic he covers and treats it with the respect it deserves.

In the video above, it is pointed out that Jenny Slate ignored the question she was asked about Justin. It would appear that none of the cast is backing their director. Why? Because if there is one thing you don’t do, it’s get on the star’s bad side. Blake is popular and in the A-list crowd. Justin is not, even though he has a reasonable following, due to his other projects and Jane the Virgin.

There is also speculation, as per the video, that Blake used the film as a “trial run” to get into directing. Not to mention, there another rumour that the crew sided with Justin and Colleen Hoover sided with Blake over the direction of the movie.

Possible Reasons For The Feud

  • Creative differences during post-production
  • Ryan Reynolds’ involvement
  • The promotion of Blake’s haircare range
  • Blake “taking over” direction of the film and Justin not liking it
