What Is The Togruta Species In Star Wars?

Togruta, star wars

Much like the Twi’lek, the Togruta is a well-known species in the Star Wars galaxy. Usually founded on the planet Shili, the Togruta has been made famous thanks to notable individuals of the species, including Jedi Master Shaak Ti and former Jedi Padawan Ahsoka Tano.

The Togruta species’ natural habitat is the mountains, and they speak two known native languages, Togruti and Galactic Basic standard. They also have multiple stomachs. The montrals sit upon the head, and the lekku sit on either side of the head and behind the head. Female lekku grow longer than male leeku. Montrals could also sense objects.

The was a Togruta government on Shili which was allowed to be ruled by a female monarch, like Naboo. However, like the Twi’lek species, the Togruta were known to be sold into slavery, as seen with the conquest of Kiros and the Battle on Kiros, another world that served as another home for the species. Some were Force-sensitive, as seen with Ti and Tano.

Many Togrutas were taught the way of their people from a young age, as seen with Ahsoka when her mother, Pav-ti, took her out hunting as an infant, as seen in Tales of the Jedi.

Imperial Transition

During the transition from the Galactic Republic to the Empire, the Togruta Jedi were hunted down and killed like the other Jedi. Ahsoka was no longer a Jedi, but her clone troops assigned to her by her former master Anakin Skywalker saw her as such and nothing else.

Ahsoka served the war by going into hiding with the help of her friend and former clone captain, Rex.
