Talk About Nostalgic! The Tamagotchi Is Back!

Tamagotchi

The Tamagotchi is back and it’s a little different to what we remember…

Are you a 90s baby or perhaps born in the late 80s? Well, we’re a 90s baby through and through which is the whole reason for this post. Last night, an old friend posted a photo to Facebook of the Digimon he bought. Talk about nostalgic! He said that where he got it also had the classic Tamagotchi. Little more than 12 hours later, we got one and god does it bring back memories!

For those who don’t remember or know, the Tamagotchi is a digital pet that you had to try and keep alive.

We had a hell of a time trying to keep all the ones we had alive. It was not pleasant by a long shot. Now, we hope we can actual achieve it.

How Different Is The Original Tamagotchi?

When we had the Tamagotchi we had a child, you could link to others via infa-red. You can’t with the re-released one and there’s not as many features.

Omitted features include:

  • Only one game to cheer your character up with.
  • No gender.
  • No ability to name your character.
  • Only two food choices.
  • No infared connectivity.
  • The device itself is much smaller

Final Review

To be honest, we’re a little disappointed with it. They stripped the original Tamagotchi back to the foundation of what made it successful in the 90s and early 00s.

In fact, a review from Verge of the mini version of the toy which was released in America in 2017 basically sums up how we felt about the ‘classic’ Tamagotchi.

Are we too old for the Tamagotchi? Yes, but it’s good to be nostalgic from time to time. Are we glad we got to relive it? Yes. Was it worth it? Sure was! We just wish that it was more to the device than what we got.
