Lord Voldemort had a deep affection for his beloved snake, Nagini. She was by his side constantly as she was one of his Horcruxes. However, there is so much more to her role in the Harry Potter universe than being the dark lord’s loyal pet.
Nagini was once a human woman from Indonesia. She was a Maledictus, a human with a blood curse. The more she transformed, the more permanent the curse became. In 1927, she was a circus performer and had formed a romantic attraction to Credence Barebone.
By the time 1994 rolled around, Nagini was trapped in her snake body. What happened to her between 1927 and 1994 is unclear. However, Voldemort likely found her at some point during this time.
When Voldemort’s body was destroyed after his killing curse on Harry Potter rebounded due to Lily Potter’s protection charm over her son, Nagini was used to help him regain his strength. Her venom was used in a potion created by Peter Pettigrew, his most loyal servant, who betrayed the Potters.
Nagini Alerts Voldemort
During her time with Voldemort, she is tasked with attempting to kill Arthur Weasley, an act that inadvertently fails as Arthur survives his injuries. Nagini alerted Voldemort to the presence of muggle gardener Frank Bryce who once worked for the Riddle family. The dark lord then killed the muggle similarly for being a silent witness to his plan to capture Harry Potter.
Nagini was later killed by Gryffindor student Neville Longbottom with the Sword of Gryffindor during the Battle of Hogwarts. Harry Potter told his friend to remove the snake as she was the only Horcrux remaining.
