We have some seriously good bitter jealousy goss to share about the Duchess of Sussex! According to one royal writer, Meghan is envious of Catherine, Beatrice, and Eugenie. We’re not really surprised at the Kate bit but the royal cousins?
Sorry, Meghan but your bitter jealousy has been exposed! Author Tom Quinn has written a book entitled, Kensington Palace: An Intimate Memoir from Queen Mary to Meghan Markle which details some of what has been going on behind closed doors. In an article by News.com.au, it’s been stated that the Duchess of Sussex has it out for her in-laws especially sister-in-law, Catherine and cousins-in-law, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie.
Now, we’ve written about how Meghan could potentially see Catherine as a threat. However, could there be more to the story than what we don’t know? In saying that, we thought we’d see how much weight any of this theory has.
Yes, We’re Calling It A Theory
So, how deep could this bitter jealousy Meghan supposedly has run? Well, let’s look at Catherine.
Catherine is going to one day be Consort to her husband, Prince William. She is also the mother of a future king with her eldest son. What does Meghan have? She should have run for the hills when she realised that she and Harry weren’t near the top of the line of succession.
Just hear us out. If Quinn’s book is to be believed – we’re taking it lightly – the frequent infighting was a contributing factor to the Sussexes’ decision to leave.
Quinn was allegedly told by a Kensington Palace communications staff member:
Tensions were bound to arise because Meghan inevitably had to accept that although she is a duchess she is not married to the next king. I think she has found that difficult to deal with and although Harry loved their cottage in the grounds of Kensington Palace, Meghan was conscious that it was tiny in comparison to the vast apartment complex where Kate and William live.
So, what does this quote tell us about bitter jealousy?
She instantly thought that because of her standing as a duchess she would one day become Queen. Sorry, love, but this is NOT how the monarchy works.
If this doesn’t convince you, then she clearly had no idea how the British class system worked. There are plenty of other Duchesses outside of Catherine. Others include:
- Sarah, Duchess of York (ex-wife of Prince Andrew)
- Camilla, Duchess of Cornwell (second wife of Prince Charles, also has the Princess of Wales title but does NOT use it)
- Birgitte, Duchess of Gloucester (wife of Prince Edward, Duke of Gloucester)
Birgitte and Sarah were never going to be Queen. If Meghan had done her research, she would’ve known this.
The Apartment Debacle
If the News.com.au article is any indication, Meghan hated living in the shoebox that is Nottingham Cottage and wanted to live in a Kensington Palace Apartment like her in-laws. Mind you, this was before she and Harry were granted Frogmore Cottage as a wedding gift by the Queen.
Now, we need to think about who Meghan thinks she is, AKA her narcissist side. Because she is the wife of a prince and a former actress, bigger is better. If you look at her and Harry’s living situation at the moment, they’re currently shacked up in Tyler Perry’s multimillion mansion in Los Angeles.
Big house, even larger expectations.
However, let’s dive into Meghan’s net worth before she married Harry. She was worth up to US$5million though she might’ve been worth much more. After all, she was being paid for her blog, endorsements, her salary on Suits etc.
If you accept a marriage proposal from a British prince, then you move into his home. You get zero say where he lives unless you move out at a later date. It was also the place where Harry proposed in Nott Cott. The place should hold special memories for Meghan. In other words, she should be grateful.
Harry And Meghan Cannot Accept “Second Place”
If Quinn is to be believed, the Sussexes had plans to trump the Cambridges, but realised that they couldn’t. This is thought to be one of the reasons why the problematic and fame-seeking royal couple split from the royal family. They were jealous because of William and Catherine are more well-liked than they are.
Why doesn’t this surprise us? Harry has never wanted fame, nor has he ever wanted the throne. So did this suddenly change? Oh, right! His former actress of a wife was whispering sweet nothings in his ear. She wanted to use his money – he is worth anywhere between US$25million to US$40million – to topple their ‘competition’.
Harry was born to wealth given his father is a future king and his mother was born to the aristocratic Spencer family. He and William also inherited money from Diana after she died tragically. If Meghan was such a fan of the mother-in-law she never met, she wouldn’t have pushed for her husband to use his money in this way.
The Duke of Sussex has always sat in second place to his brother and he’s always appeared to be fine with that. He was a free spirit before he met his wife. The throne has never appealed to him and he’s always gone of out of his way to make people see that. However, since Meghan arrived on the scene, he suddenly cares about being noticed? This has the Duchess of Sussex written all over it
The Beginning Of The Feud With The York Sisters
Okay, so we’ve covered Catherine. So… why does Meghan have a bitter jealousy towards Beatrice and Eugenie?
Harry has always had a close relationship with the York sisters whom are the daughters of his Uncle Andrew and Sarah Ferguson. However, the bond between the girls and their cousin has reportedly soured. We wonder why. *insert eye roll here*
It has been revealed that Harry and Eugenie became engaged to their significant other around the same time. However, given their places in the line of succession, the then-future Duke of Sussex was given the first wedding while the younger Princess of York was the second.
In other words, Eugenie and Jack’s wedding got pushed back in favor of Harry and Meghan’s. What really takes the cake is that the now-Duchess of Sussex would’ve jumped at the chance to be the first royal bride up the aisle at St. George’s Chapel, which she ended up being.
Reexamining Tiara Gate
So… where does the bitter jealousy set in? Well, it all has to do with Tiara gate. Remember how there was that rumour floating around about Meghan wanting to wear an emerald headpiece for her wedding?
Well, if Lady Colin Campbell is to be believed (yes, she’s got something to say about this too) both Markle and Eugenie wanted the same tiara. However, it is believed that that the Princess of York had first preference as it had already been selected before Meghan was given the opportunity to choose her own. In other words, Harry knew of the selection and simply ‘forgot’ to mention it to his fiancée.

In regards to the Queen, she did not want her granddaughter to be overshadowed by having someone else (her granddaughter-in-law) wear the same tiara. Her Majesty’s trusted dresser, Angela Kelly said Harry and Meghan “made an almighty fuss”.
This would backup what happened in the Lifetime movie, Harry and Meghan: Becoming Royal where the future Duchess kicks up a stink over the tiara. It’s mentioned that Princess Eugenie had already reserved it and Markle remarks that she wanted to wear it because it ‘meant something to her as a biracial woman’.
Where Does Princess Beatrice Fit Into Meghan’s Bitter Jealousy?
Okay, so we’ve discussed Catherine, Eugenie, Tiara Gate and now we need to go over how Beatrice fits into the Meghan’s bitter jealousy of the Windsor women.
In Meghan’s lawsuit against the newspapers that published her father’s letter, she claims that Beatrice and Eugenie don’t work for the Queen but have titles. This was in response to the newspaper’s claims she [Meghan] has a title but doesn’t work for the Queen when she did when she was a working royal.
Yeah, we had to look for another to explain that one to us. So, Meghan is jelly over Beatrice and Eugenie having titles and not working for the monarch? Ah… okay.
We’re never going to understand Meghan or the way her mind works. In saying that, we’re just going to shift our focus elsewhere. We’re also getting really sick of people defending her and not looking at the bigger picture of what is going on.
Conclusion
Do we care if Meghan has a bitter jealousy for her more grateful in-laws? Not really. She’s a social climber who will use whatever situation she finds herself in to look better. We don’t like talking drama when it comes to this type of topic, but we can’t just ignore it.
Meghan doesn’t like playing second- best to anyone and thought she could be the face of the monarchy. She was wrong on so many levels. As much as we love the idea of her being divorced, American, and biracial, she thinks she’s better than the other royals. The others had years of experience under their belts. Markle didn’t have very long at all.
