Royal parenting is not what it was when Her Majesty was a young mother. Diana, Princess of Wales, changed the way her ex-husband, Prince Charles, approached parenting after her death. Her love for their two sons, Princes William and Harry, showed him that tapping into his emotions would make him a better father in the long run.
Diana took the boys to homeless shelters and amusement parks, even going on the rides with them. She didn’t mind getting wet or dirty or whatever it entailed as long as they had fun. Her parenting was one part of her legacy that remained with them. William is in tune with his children, George, Charlotte, and Louis. As for Harry, it’s hard to say what type of father he is as we never see him with his kids, Archie and Lilibet.
Charles Became A Sole Parent After Prince Diana Died
Charles had to adapt after his ex-wife’s death, as he had two teenage sons who now had to rely solely on him. So he chose to take William and Harry to Africa, which forged their love of the country. William proposed to his longtime girlfriend, Catherine Middleton, in Kenya in 2010. Harry proposed to his long-distance girlfriend, Meghan Markle, in Botswana in 2017.
When Prince William and Catherine had three children, Charles forged a close bond with his grandchildren. According to his second wife, Camilla, when they were little, the Prince of Wales would get to their level and spend hours playing with them. So, while he wasn’t precisely hands-on with his children, Charles has stepped up with his grandchildren. He held William and Harry when they were little, but this was probably as far as it went. The hands-on stuff was left to Diana.
Finally, Charles realised that if he wanted to honour his ex-wife, he had to get more involved with their boys. He did that quite successfully, as he and William are very close. However, the relationship he had with Harry is dead in the water.
