Could Titans Be Setting Up Mar’i Grayson?

[CAUTION: This Post Contains SPOILERS For Titans Episode 3×12: Prodigal]

As we gear up for the Titans Season 3 finale next week, we were thrown a massive surprise in this week’s episode. Resolving the cliffhanger from last week, Nightwing is placed in the Lazarus Pit by Gar and Rachel after they discover his body. While he is under the effects of the pit, he comes face-to-face with his late father John, his younger self, and a daughter he could potentially have in the future. We caught the reference straight away. The little girl is a nod to Mar’i Grayson, a child the ex-Robin has with Starfire in the comics. Let’s not forget the sister trouble Kory has had with Blackfire.

Mar’i Grayson is Dick and Kory’s daughter on Earth-22, according to the DC Fandom site. We’ve known about her existence for a while but didn’t know too much about her. However, when the little girl appeared to Dick, we knew exactly who she was.

What’s more, is Mar’i isn’t the only child of Dick’s we’ve seen. In Season 1, Trigon shows Dick a twisted reality where he’s married to Dawn, and they have a son, Johnny. Funnily enough, in the comics, Dick has a son named Johnny with Barbara Gordon on Earth-2, who follows his lead and becoming a hero. Like his father, he becomes a version of Robin. He also takes on the mantle of Firepattern.

A comic storyline called Nightwing: The First New Order gives Dick a son with Starfire named Jacob. The boy’s mother left him and his father when he was young. He eventually marries and has a son of his own named after Dick.

Mar’i In The Comics

Going back to Mar’i, in the comics, she becomes a hero like her parents and becomes known as Nightstar. Her main love interest is Damian Wayne. She marries Batman’s son and has two children with him. She also becomes a member of the Teen Titans and the Outsiders.

Depending on the storyline, Starfire and Mar’i have different relationships. One story even has her die when Mar’i is young. It’s assumed she was named after Dick’s mother, Mary.
