What Happens When The Man Of Steel Becomes A Pariah?

Injustice

[THIS POST CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR INJUSTICE ]

The world regards Superman with the highest praise. The big blue boy scout is all about saving lives, but what if injustice became an obstacle? Injustice explores that concept brutally and does NOT hold back. No, not the Pariah from Crisis on Infinite Earths. This is why we didn’t want another Superman show with Superman & Lois. This could also be up there with Nia’s arc in the Supergirl episode, Reality Bytes.

When Superman discovers his wife, Lois Lane, is pregnant with their first child, his joy suddenly becomes a living nightmare. The Joker decides to target the Man of Steel by first killing Jimmy Olsen and then tricking Clark into killing his wife. When he realises his mistake, he reaps his revenge by killing Batman’s worst enemy. He then starts going after anyone who has committed a crime, no matter how small.

Furthermore, this causes a ripple effect within the Justice League, leading the team divided. Batman attempts to hold everyone together, but even his own sons, Dick and Damian are on opposing sides. Wonder Woman becomes Superman’s number one supporter and joins his side, which causes massive issues with Bruce.

When Harley Quinn Joins The Good Guys

The Clown Princess of Crime, Harley Quinn plays an unexpected role in the film. After Joker dies, is protected by Green Arrow and becomes “pals” with him. She wants revenge on Superman for murdering her Puddin’.

Also, Green Arrow feels that it’s best to protect her from Superman when he goes on his killing spree. What’s funny about Harley’s involvement in Injustice is Batman doesn’t have too much interaction with her.

Injustice Comes At A Price

As the film progresses, Superman becomes a pariah without mercy. When his adoptive father, Jonathan Kent is kidnapped, Clark continues his reign of terror, genuinely believing he is helping the world. However, things become a bloodbath when the criminals at Arkham are released. The two feuding sides of the Justice League join forces to return them to their cells.

The fight results in Damian accidentally killing Dick, which results in Superman going to Catwoman, telling her that Batman will need someone to console him. It’s also nice to see Selina play a neutral role, though she still leans towards theft. We couldn’t expect anything less from her.

When Jonathan is killed by Green Arrow’s stray arrow, it causes Superman to spiral even further, determined to eliminate injustice. However, when Clark refuses to listen to reason from even Diana, Mister Terrific summons a surprising source; another version of Superman from another Earth. Unfortunately, even this doesn’t work as it results in a fight breaking out between the two.

Terrific tries again, and this time, he summons another version of Lois, one who has lost her version of Superman, the father of her unborn child. Heavily pregnant, she explains to troubled Clark that her version of him died fighting Brainiac and that he would not want her to give up on society.

Finally realising what he has been doing is wrong, Clark agrees to be locked away.
