Is Meghan Markle Looking To Start A Book Club? – OPINION

Meghan Markle book club

Could Meghan Markle create her own book club? We don’t believe so, but it’s fun to speculate. The reason we bring this up is because, over the past few years, there have been references to books pop up in relation to the former actress.

There have been countless news articles about whether she will write her memoir like her husband. We know she was involved with writing Omid Scobie’s hagiography, Finding Freedom, which she denied and had to backtrack after it came out in court.

Then, we have her publishing The Bench, a children’s book written from a poem she had written for Harry after Archie was born. After that, she made that storyline video for Penguin Random House, where she read the book. Then she reread it at the school in Harlem in New York.

Now we know people will go, “How is this relevant to Meghan Markle potentially creating a book club?” We were just about to get to that. Oh, and she had a whole list of book recommendations on The Tig.

We found an article by Vanity Fair from March 2017 that deep-dived into The Tig. In this article, they found several references to books such as The Notebook, The English Patient and Eat, Pray, Love. According to VF, Meghan didn’t want a ‘textbook romance’ the way that The Notebook represents it.

The reason we bring up Eat, Pray, Love is because Harry mentions it in Spare, as highlighted in a review by the New Yorker where Meghan apparently tells Harry about her ‘Eat, Pray, Love’ summer and he has no clue to what she is talking about.

Another book that has come up recently is Carley Fortune’s Meet Me at the Lake, which, according to reports, sounds like a fanfiction about the Sussexes due to its similarities. Also, Carley has admitted to being a Sussex fan.

The reason Meet Me at the Lake has come up is because the Sussexes via Archewell Productions, will adapt it into a Netflix movie. However, given that Netflix owns the rights to the book and the Sussex Netflix deal expires in 2025, it is unlikely that the film will be made by Archewell as the Sussexes had a five year deal and have only created two projects with their names (Harry & Meghan and Heart of Invictus) and slapped their names on another (Live to Lead) that was already completed by someone else.

There are books behind Meghan. Also, Tom Bower mentions in Revenge that when Sam Kashner, the Vanity writer who interviewed Meghan for her ‘Wild About Harry’ feature, said there were books about London (or England in general) all around her rented Toronto house.

Meghan uses books to make it look like she is interested in a particular subject and uses them as a PR tactic to make herself look educated. We see it now with her apparent interest in romance literature with Meet Me at the Lake. There is no way Harry read it. She was only interested in this book because the story closely resembles her ‘romance’ with Harry and the parallels to his life that they have exploits, the parent dying in a car crash, etc.

It’s clear by the way Meghan Markle uses books that she is trying to make it look like she cares when she doesn’t. People cannot connect to her as they know she is a fraud. Actually, that brings up to something else. Let’s explore the type of books she exploits.

First, we have Eat, Pray, Love. Meghan is an avid traveller, and she wants to live like Elizabeth Gilbert, where she falls in love while travelling. If what is written in Spare is to be believed, this is what she told Harry. Who starred in the movie adaptation? That’s right: Julia Roberts, whom Markle has some obsession with due to her rom-com days.

Next, we have Meet Me at the Lake. This one is interesting because the author is an alleged Sussex fangirl. There are many similarities to the Sussexes. We’ve already mentioned the car crash that claimed a parent’s life. There is also a reference to Canada, where Meghan lived for several years while she filmed Suits. We could go on. However, The Vintage Read Show read it and said that she didn’t see much resemblance.

Up next, we have The Bench. While we go on about how tacky it is and how children hate it, we have another reason for our thoughts. We are on Amazon regularly and came across another book called ‘The Bench.’ While the genre differs, the second book we found with this name is a heartbreaking love story. What does Meghan reference in her The Bench? Tears of great joy and how the Bench is a place where a father and son can enjoy. The tagline for the romance The Bench book is ‘It will always be their place.’

Not to mention, Meghan has come under fire for allegedly stealing the premise for her book from another children’s book that has great similarities to the other. The author of the 2018 book outright rejected the comparisons between the two.

If Meghan Markle were to start a book club, she would probably try to pull an Emma Watson, whose book club, Our Shared Shelf, contained feminist reads. Meghan was an avid fangirl of Emma and wanted to be elevated to the same level at UN Women as Watson, but she was told no, and then, in a huff, she quit. However, what could Meghan possibly add to the conversation about women’s equality? She didn’t stick with UN Women long enough to make any impact. Also, she is not above bullying other women to make herself feel better about herself. Just ask her female staff and Catherine. She does not care about other women. She never did, unless they follow the same mindset. Look at her friends Lindsay Roth, Abigail Spencer and Janina Gavinkar, they’re all friends with her because they are willing to lie for her.

Also, Meghan could go down the romance novel book club route because it is fictional. Her ‘love story’ with Harry is exactly that: fake. There is no ‘love story’ as she convinced him that no other man in his family married for love and only wed their wives because they “married women who fit the mould”.

Okay, well, King Charles married Diana because she fit the mould. He never loved her the way she loved him. The Queen and Prince Philip were married for over seventy years. That is what we would call true love. Edward and Sophie have never split up. Charles, Anne and Andrew have all been divorced. Also, Harry’s comment is offensive towards William and Catherine. They dated on and off for a decade and its an insult to the Edinburghs too.

What makes Harry an expert on love? His previous girlfriends dumped him because they could see him spiralling into the pits of paranoia. What makes Meghan an expert on love? She dumped her first husband without even telling him. She returned her rings to him and hasn’t spoken to him since, yet she proclaims her and Harry are the greatest love story ever? They’re not Romeo and Juliet. Oh, wait. They both die at the end of that story. No, she thinks they are Snow White and her prince or Ariel and Eric. Ah-huh. Keep dreaming.
