Pop culture nerds will know that Adam West is best remembered as Bruce Wayne/Batman in the 1966 Batman television series. He died in 2017, aged 88, but left behind a lasting legacy in film and television. One of the roles he was still playing until his passing was Mayor Adam West in the animated adult comedy series Family Guy.
Adam West played Mayor West from 2000 to 2018. The final recorded episodes that the actor did were released after his passing. He recorded 118 episodes of the show and the direct-to-video movie Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story, released in 2005.
Family Guy is well-known for its nods to pop culture, including three films in the original Star Wars trilogy.
How Adam West’s Death Was Handled On Family Guy
Upon the death of Adam West, the Family Guy team had to work out how they would address the passing. They settled on having the character die offscreen. As part of their decision, they created a new character. This character would be his cousin, Wild West (played by Sam Elliott). Wild would be the new Mayor.
Moreover, since the character’s introduction in 2019, Wild West has appeared in 15 episodes. His debut in Wild Wild Wild West is centred around Peter and Lois Griffin being annoyed that no one is suitable enough to replace Mayor West. That is, until Wild West shows up and proves he’s a capable candidate.
In conclusion, though, it takes much convincing from Peter to get Wild to accept the gig. Finally, Sam Elliot is credited as a guest star and occasionally appears. Moreover, this makes sense due the 15 appearances.
