What is an English Rose? The dictionary definition says “English Rose” means a female with fair skin with great looks. However, for anyone who adores Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, this term describes the future Queen Consort, but not for her appearance. It applies to her character.
Now, I’m betting you’re wondering why Kate is the focus of a Chronicles of Harkle post. I’ll explain that in a moment. Meanwhile, there’s drama, and it has to do with our favourite non-royal Duchess, Meghan Markle. Wow, okay. I cannot believe I wrote those words.
Onto the reason why we’re here. The whole world knows how much Meghan Markle despises Catherine. Yes, I understand that people still give the former actress the benefit of the doubt. What some don’t comprehend is that Mrs Harry thrives from conflict. She might claim that she hates it, but this is not the type of woman she is.
Catherine’s ability to relate to people is why the world adores her. Like her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana was called the People’s Princess, Kate is an English Rose and the Children’s Princess. Kids love her as she’s always happy to talk to them. She gives them high fives and hugs. Overall, the people of the Commonwealth know they’re appreciated. However, this is not the same treatment they got from Meghan.
Meghan Thrives Off Conflict
I want to cover Catherine first because her character is what draws her to people. She’s not spiteful or vindictive and relates to the public without making anything about her. Meanwhile, Meghan is the total opposite.
As I stated earlier, Meghan lives for the conflict. She thrives off it. It’s like a drug to her. Remember, she claimed someone made a racist remark about Archie. Ultimately, this resulted in a literal witch hunt. For months people were questioning who said it.
No one, except the Queen and Prince Philip, was exonerated. Furthermore, this forces everyone else to close ranks. To make it worse, Meghan twisted the crying story to make it look she was the victim. Markle’s comment caused Prince William to accompany his wife on an engagement where a reporter asked if the royals were racist. He denied the allegations.
Anyway, Catherine, our English Rose, doesn’t deserve to be thrown under the metaphorical bus so, Meghan feels better. What’s more, is the Duchess of Cambridge has never hidden who she truly is. Yes, she had a tough trot while she and William were dating, but what royal woman hasn’t? Also, she’s incredibly comfortable with who she is. She grew up in a loving family where everyone is respected, and no one is ever thought of as higher or lower than another.
Meghan grew up not knowing what the word “no” meant. Much like Catherine, she had a loving family. There are plenty of photos out there to prove this. However, she did technically grow up as an only child as her half-siblings, Tom Jr and Samantha, are much older than she is.
An Elegant And Graceful English Rose
What makes Catherine such an English Rose is how she dresses to the nines. While she usually plays it safe by wearing outfits she has worn before. However, when she, William, Charles and Camilla were invited to the European premiere of the James Bond film, No Time To Die, Kate decided to wow. And wow she did. She wore a gold dress that allegedly caused Harry’s jaw to drop when he saw it over in Montecito, California. YouTuber, PDina talks about the smackdown in more detail, so be sure to check her linked video if you want to know more.
Anyway, Meghan saw her ‘arch enemy’ in this incredible dress and she was furious to the point she had to excuse herself and scream. Now, I don’t know if this is true or not, I have zero idea if it is, but I like to think it is as I can see it happening. Honestly, I believe this is where the Duchess of Montecito’s jealousy got to better of her. She is so caught up in her beauty that she forgets some people are stunning inside, as well as out.
Being the Greek Mythology geek that I am, I consider Meghan to be the female Narcissus. For those who mightn’t be aware, Narcissus was a guy born to a river god and a nymph who fell in love with his reflection. Be sure to check out the Narcissus page on Britannica for more. Or, if you continue down the Disney route as I have before with Harry being Bambi, Meghan comparing herself to Ariel and the satire on Meghan’s Disney Princess Syndrome, Markle is equal to the vain Evil Queen. Not to mention, “Narcissus” is where the word, “Narcissism” is derived from.
Meghan’s View
Having reviewed and studied Meghan in interviews, pictures, videos, her blog, etc, I’ve come to a rather damning conclusion about her which will surprise no one. She deems herself the “English Rose”. Yes, I know how that sounds. In her eyes, she is the perfect human being. No flaws, hence no need to follow rules as none apply to her. Ultimately, this is my belief, regarding this is why she didn’t last very long as a working royal.
She believed everything you see in movies where the royals are cruel to their staff and the people she sees as “servants” have to do as she says when she snaps her dainty fingers.
Hate to break it to anyone who believes that, but no. Royals do not treat their staff like second class citizens. I don’t know it works in other nations, but the British royals, notably The Queen, the Prince of Wales and the Cambridges, all treat their staff as family. Meghan, however, treated her staff like they were chewing gum under her stilettos. The turnover rate for the Sussexes was incredibly high with at least one person quitting every six months. This is why Jason Knauf came out with the bullying allegations before the Oprah interview aired.
She believed that Harry would be her key to success. That she could marry him in a televised ceremony, get the fancy title and be the Queen and no one would question it. Well, she was given a rude awakening when she realised there was a pecking order and people had to fall into line. Meaning, she had to follow behind Catherine. She could NOT be in front of her. Just the below photo sums up what Meghan thinks about being second.
Selfishness (Race Card) v. Selflessness (English Rose)
To end this post, I wanted to cover the difference between Meghan and Catherine in regards to being selfish and selfishness.
So, Meghan is selfish. She uses the race card and people (and Harry) fall for it. Meanwhile, Catherine, our beloved English Rose, is selfless as she never makes any engagement she does about herself.
For the former actress, playing the race card is her meal ticket. She knows that people will be outraged if her race is criticised. However, this is no longer working in the way she wants. The world is finally waking up to the type of person she is. She is willing to exploit people to further herself.
Moving over to Catherine, she is a model royal. She follows the rules and will occasionally break them, however she doesn’t go on national television and harp about her family. She’s not Meghan who thinks lies are truth and the truth is lies.
Meghan was not going to “hit the ground running”. That was never the plan for her. Let’s not forget, she threw Catherine under the bus with the crying situation pre-wedding. I believe she [Meghan] made Kate cry, not the other way around. It has nothing to do with me liking Catherine more. No, it as to with character. Meghan is selfish and Catherine selfless. There is a large difference.
